Android 11 Will Solve Airplane Mode Problems

by Digital Marketing E. Online Marketing Professional

Those who love to listen to music from their smartphone while traveling by plane will surely know that before closing their hand luggage, remember to include a pair of traditional headphones, that is, with a wire. This is because, when we activate the Airplane mode on your smartphone, we can not use the Bluetooth .

The Airplane mode , in fact, provides to turn off all wireless connections: data network, Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth. In theory, in fact, Bluetooth could interfere with radio equipment on board aircraft and create safety problems. With Android 11, however, this could all be overcome and users of Google's next mobile operating system may finally be able to use Bluetooth headsets while in flight . At the moment this is not a certain change to the next version of Android, because Google may decide not to include it even at the last minute. But the fact that it is being tested bodes well.

Bluetooth on the plane: the open source solution

As early as 2013, the Federal Aviation Administration, that is, the American public body that establishes the rules of air safety, has opened the possibility that some Bluetooth devices are used during the flight : those with short-range transmission. The problem, however, is that by tapping on Airplane mode everything that goes wireless is switched off, without distinction between short, medium or long range transmissions. The solution could come from AOSP, the Android Open Source Project. That is the public archive where the code changes to improve Android are published and which, at times, Google also integrates into the official versions of its operating system.

Bluetooth on the plane: what changes with Android 11

The change, published by the developer of Google Ugo Yu, consists in not completely turning off Bluetooth , even in Airplane mode, if two Bluetooth profiles are already active in particular: the Bluetooth A2DP and the Bluetooth Hearing Aid . In both cases it is a question of using Bluetooth profiles to connect with short-range wearable devices , just like the in-ear headphones . If Google will introduce this small change in the official Android 11 code, then simply activate and pair the headphones before setting the Airplane mode to be able to continue listening to music with the wireless earphones.
