An Overview of Data Center Management

by Teja Sahib Smart Glass

Data center management is an essential part of business infrastructure management. The term is used in a broader sense to refer to the management of a data center, which includes maintenance, operations, and other aspects of data center operation. This includes planning for the future and Business support management. These aspects of data center management include access, data protection, network, security, servers, power, cooling, and aging. This article will cover some of the aspects of data center management that include planning.

Data center architecture typically includes two data center designs. These designs are referred to as first-generation and second-generation. First-generation designs consist of a single server room containing one or more central silos where all servers are physically located. Second-generation designs have multiple silos connected via routers and there is some amount of bandwidth between each silo. Both of these designs are used to provide data center management.

There are a number of components that make up data center management. These components include management IT, engineering IT, power, and cooling IT. Each of these components requires special training for its use in data center management. Examples include ITIL, IT manager, cloud computing, and many others.

Many of the tasks required by data center management to include monitoring, assessing, and controlling the overall utilization of the various silos. Monitoring is primarily used to determine the amount of power being used and the amount of heat being generated inside of each of the silos. Another major component of data center management involves determining the amount of utilization that each asset requires and then regulating its utilization.

The third component of data center management involves the regulation of the various traffic flows within the data center. This is done through a complete data center management system. Some of the processes that dictate the operation of the traffic flow include control of the routing table, controlling the access to the various resources, and creating transfer rules. Transfer rules are typically implemented for a particular resource and are used to control whether data from one resource is allowed to flow into another resource. Additional aspects of this component of complete data center management include the generation of policy statements and policy directives that indicate the maximum number of people that can be authorized to enter any particular resource and creating policies and procedures that allow departments to share information between various silos.

Data center management requires several different types of expertise in order to operate. For example, in some cases, an individual or an entity that owns the business that is operating the data center must be an IT professional in order to be able to handle the management of the system. However, many companies choose to outsource this aspect of their management to a third party. Outsourcing is commonly used when the owner of the company does not have the necessary experience to effectively manage the system on their own. There are also companies that will hire a full service to manage the system across multiple data centers in order to save money, although this is generally not recommended.
