by John Smith Cosmetic and Beauty Products
Perfume...Parfum... Cologne... Eau de toilette...Spray...Mist...Vaporizer...Atomizer!!!! So many words and almost all of us use them, butwe know so little about the stuff that we wear on our body. What is it? How to wear it? Who wears what type of fragrance? Surely, there is an air of mystery around a product, used by millions worldwide. And yet, despite this uncertainty, there is one thing we know: it smells really nice, and we like it.

Parfum…It is simply the French word for perfume! Perfume is a combination of aroma compounds, essential oils, solvents, and fixatives. When mixed together in the right ratio, it produces an amazing smelling substance. Such substances can be derived from natural sources or be produced synthetically.

Wearing fragrances has definitely gone a long way. In those times, it was mainly for the royalties but slowly reached the masses until the Renaissance period came along. As then when people could not bathe often, Eau Extracts and Eau de Parfums came into the picture for wider consumption. Today, everybody has complete access to Eau de Parfums, Eau de Toilette, and Eau Extracts. Even body sprays and colognes, which have lesser concentrations of aromatic compounds, in comparison to Eau de Parfum and Eau Extracts, are getting extremely popular. Everyone wants to smell good. Just type Women Perfume online in any search engine such as google, bing, etc. and an elaborate list of the most loved perfume and brands that are world renowned will pop up and spin your mind!

The fragrant oil content decides the beauty and strength of a perfume. Perfume has three common varieties-Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT) and Eau de Cologne. Actually, they are French words but have found their way in the English dictionary too. The literal translation of Eau de Parfum is 'water of perfume, and Eau de Toilette is 'water of toilet' (grooming water)  let's have a look at these-

1. Eau de Parfum
Eau de Parfum (EDP) is made from a combination of fragrance mix (essential oils and fragrant materials), ethanol (alcohol) and water. The concentration of fragrance mix is medium to high in comparison to the water and alcohol content of the solution. It contains anywhere between 10% - 20% of fragrance mix. This variety has the highest composition of fragrance concentration of all the three varieties of perfume. EDP's are generally found in upscale stores and cost far higher than Eau de Toilette and Cologne. Most EDP's last from morning to night providing a long lasting fragrance. Although perfumes are separately labeled by the makers themselves as Eau De Parfum Men and Eau De Parfum Women, the basics of them are actually the same. Just that perfumes that are strong, woody, leathery, musky and aromatic are usually considered to be masculine perfumes and light, fruity, floral, fresh and sweetish scents are usually considered to be feminine.

2. Eau de Toilette

Eau de Toilette too is made from a combination of fragrance mix, ethanol and water but has a medium to low concentration of fragrance mix. It contains anywhere between 5% - 15% of fragrance mix. As it contains more water and ethanol than fragrance mix, it is less expensive and it does not last that long. So, if you wish to smell fragranced all day, you would probably need to carry bottles of EDT with you around. Some of the best men's eau de toilette brands include Calvin Klein, Diesel, Dior, Hugo Boss, and Paco Rabanne.

3. Eau de Cologne
Eau de Cologne or simply known as Cologne, derived its name from the German City, Cologne. It is too made from a combination of fragrance mix, ethanol and water but has a very low concentration of fragrance mix and high concentration of alcohol. It contains anywhere between 2% - 4% of fragrance oil. A cologne is cheaper and lasts for an hour or two. Its base notes mainly consist of herbs and citrus fruits.

Everyone loves wearing perfumes, especially women. For them smelling good is as important as looking beautiful. The market is flooded with perfumes for women. Just enter any cosmetic store, most of the perfume section is sure to display women's colognes and perfumes. Some of the best perfume for women available today include Chanel, DKNY, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder, and Gucci.

The perfume industry is a billion-dollar enterprise. It has brought immense fame and wealth to those who could conceptualize a unique and truly memorable fragrance. Yes, perfumes are a luxury item, but there is no denying that scents are confidence boosters and mood enhancers. While purchasing a fragrance, one has to consider not only the scent but the concentration level too, to be able to judge if they hold good value for money.
