Amazon Rebrands Souq.com In UAE To Amazon.ae
As previously reported by one of the top tech influencers in Lebanon, Amazon
has finally rebranded Souq.com to Amazon.ae in the United Arab Emirates. The
move comes almost two years after the American internet giant acquired Souq.com
for $580 million. Customers in UAE who log on to Souq.com are now being
redirected to Amazon.ae. Souq’s website in Saudi and Egypt, however, remain
unchanged for now.
Ronaldo Mouchawar, co-founder of Souq who is now the Vice
President of Amazon MENA, in a notethat’s being displayed on the welcome page
of Amazon.ae, said, “There have been many milestones for Souq over the past 13
years, we have another one to share with you. We are proud to announce that we
are now Amazon.ae. Amazon.ae brings together the best of
Souq’s local know-how and Amazon’s global retailing experience, and features
over 30 million products, including those available on Souq and five million
products from Amazon US.”
He also said that the customers will now be able to shop in Arabic
for the first time on both Amazon’s website and app.
