All You Need To Know About Coir Fibre Products

Amongst all the vegetable fibers, this particular fiber includes the highest concentrations of lignin. This makes coir not as much flexible as cotton but stronger. This fiber is thus not useful for dyeing. It has lower tensile strength but it is anti-microbial in nature. It can resist saltwater and does not require chemical treatments.

Two types of coir are available in the market, which is brown fiber and white fiber. Brown coir is most commonly used in the industry, which is extracted from mature coconuts. White coir is extracted from the immature (green) coconuts by soaking them into the water for more than 10 months.
Among these two, brown coir contains the maximum amount of lignin, which is a complicated woody chemical. As brown coir is prepared from matured fiber, it contains less cellulose than some other popularly used fibers including cotton and flux.
