Alex Jones take stand in Sandy Hook trial

by Sara Floyd Hello

To determine the Sandy Hook families in a second defamation trial on Thursday in a Connecticut courtroom Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones testified what the Info Wars host should pay.

By objections and sidebar conferences at the bench at one point Judge Barbara Bellis told the jury that the tempestuous testimony was so frequently interrupted, “To get your exercise you’re going in today, those of you who wear Fitbits.”

Alex Jones, Info wars founder, takes the witness stand to testify during the Alex Jones Sandy Hook defamation damages trial at Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury, Connecticut, U.S., September 22, 2022.

They’ve done work on gun control, acknowledged the risks involved in his profession as a conspiracy theorist and provocateur because Jones, who has suggested the families who successfully sued him for defamation have a political agenda.

“The world isn’t an easy place. They get in the arena when people become political figures”, Jones said.

At Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury, Conn. at the Alex Jones Sandy Hook defamation damages trial , Sept. 22, 2022 Plaintiff’s attorney Chris Mattei, left, questions Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones during testimony.

The plaintiffs’ attorney, Chris Mattei, pounced. “To suggest that my clients, these families, deserve what they got because they stepped into the arena. Are you just trying?” Mattei asked.

To the question Jones answered “no” as his lawyer objected. About the massacre being a government-staged hoax and the families of victims through his repeated lies, Mattei accused Jones of putting a target on the backs of families.

Robbie Parker, “was acting” while speaking about his daughter Emily, who was among the first graders killed, Jones conceded he said it looked like one of the parents.

Chris Mattei, by plaintiff’s attorney during testimony at the Sandy Hook defamation damages trial at Connecticut Superior Court in Waterbury, Conn., Sept. 22, 2022 Info wars founder Alex Jones is questioned.

Mattei forcefully asked,  “You put a target on his back, didn’t you,” noting that Parker was seated in the courtroom. “You put a target on his back, didn’t you, Just like you did every single parent and loved one sitting here?”

“No, I didn’t,” Before his lawyer objected, Jones insisted. Mattei said “These are real people. You know that, Mr. Jones”. “Just like all the Iraqis you liberals kill and love. You’re unbelievable. When you want you switch emotions on and off. It’s just ambulance chasing,” Jones replied.

Mattei demanded, “Why don’t you show a little respect”. “In this courtroom here that lost children, sisters, wives, mothers you have families.” Jones shot back, “Is this a struggle session? Are we in China? I’m sorry hundreds of times I’ve already said and I’m done saying I’m sorry.”

Though the massacre legitimately might have been staged and would not apologize for it, Jones said. Bellis, last year, found Jones and Info wars’ parent company liable in a defamation lawsuit for calling the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School a hoax, Free Speech Systems.

To an FBI agent who responded to the scene and eight families of victims that Jones called actors, the jury will decide how much in damages Jones should pay. During his trial on September 21, 2022 in Waterbury, Connecticut Alex Jones, Info Wars founder, speaks to the media outside Waterbury Superior Court.

He would not perjure himself by saying he’s guilty, he repeatedly said. “You can’t have a judge telling you to say that you’re guilty when you’re not. That is insane”, he said.

Bellis found Jones liable for damages for the rules of discovery by default because he and his companies, like Info wars, showed “callous disregard”.

From several parents the jury so far has heard, including Jennifer Hensel, whose 6-year-old daughter, Avielle Richman, was among the 20 children killed in the massacre, beyond Jones.

On Wednesday she told the jury that she still fears for her family’s safety after years of receiving hate mail from people questioning that her daughter had died and checks the backseat of her car before getting in.

She said in 2019 after her husband, Jeremy Richman, died by suicide, she started receiving emails from people calling his death fake as well.

Hensel said “Around Avielle’s grave marker looking for evidence that Jeremy had died people were in the cemetery”. Outside their homes other parents have also testified about death threats, rape threats and confrontations.

In damages to the parents of one of the victims after a Texas jury ordered Jones the Connecticut trial comes a month later to pay nearly $50 million.

Where 20 children and six adults were killed after he claimed that the shooting was a hoax, a claim he said he now thinks is “100% real in that defamation trial, Jones was successfully sued by the parents of a 6-year-old boy who was killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.”
