AIFF to corporatize I league with a comprehensive structure
The All India Football Federation is all set to corporatize the structure of the I league and provide it with an all new dimension. Over the years, the domestic structure in Indian football has progressed with the introduction of the ISL and the I league. These two leagues have gained massive popularity among the fans and surged ahead in terms of commercial acceptance. As per the CEO of the I league Sunando Dhar, new teams with good corporate infrastructure would be taken in the next edition. This year the league has been immensely competitive with Mohun Bagan edging past Bengaluru FC in the final encounter.
The corporatization of the I league has already begun with successful clubs like Bengaluru FC being launched by a corporate entity like JSW Steel. But all the teams should fill up the full criteria for being eligible for the draw and be a part of the entire plan.
In a recent meeting the executive committee of the AIFF has decided that new teams would be brought in the manifold soon. It has also been decided that bids would also be invited from teams of no I league representation. Some of the top cities like Hyderabad and Chennai have been identified for the same.
The other cities like Goa or Kolkata who have two more teams would not be ignored as well. With the FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign to be held in India, the AIFF is taking all the steps to make the domestic league more compact.
Currently, the I league enjoys the participation of 11 teams from different parts of India and the numbers is all set to increase soon. The number of corporate entities would certainly rake in more profit to the I league and make it competitive further.
The second division of the I league has also showed quite a lot of promise and witnessed immense competition between the teams. As per the corporate quota which has been brought in to the format of the I league only two teams have the format currently. Some of the most important corporate entities in India like Bharat Forges and JSW Steel.
Already the ISL has created a tremendous impact among the football lovers in the country and the same feat needs to be repeated in the I league as well. The I league certainly stands at a juncture where it can be further expanded with the inclusion of corporate entities. As the President of the All India Football Federation minister Praful Patel has made the I league one of the most competitive domestic leagues in the country. Under the Praful Patel profile the overall standard of Indian football has increased with the involvement of major corporates.
