Affordable Digital Nomad Destinations 2022 | Hanoi Cost Of Living & Co-Working

Being a digital nomad is one of the best job types in the world, no doubt about it.

Every week you can wake up in a new place, and not remember where you are.

You can make a new best friend everywhere you go, and leave them behind the next day as you board the plane.

And when someone asks a question like, "Where do you live?" or "What's your job?" it's easier to leave the country than it is to come up with an answer.

Okay, maybe those don't sound like the most amazing job details, but perhaps it's all in how you look at it - for me, it's not important where I was last week, because I'm already planning what new sights I'm going to see today, and what new country I'm going to visit next week.

But no matter where I go, the first step is always to check up on what other digital nomads have to say about a destination, so I know what I'm getting myself into.

Take Hanoi for example, Crucial Constructs just released their newest nomad's guide, and it has a lot to say.

Hanoi, Vietnam is one of the world’s most ancient cities, with a surprisingly low cost of living compared to similar locations around the world. Crucial Constructs nomad guide details everything remote workers need to know when considering Hanoi as a destination, including important information about getting a Visa, and when the best times are to visit.

Travelers new to Hanoi should be aware that while it is possible to arrive from many countries without a Visa, you are only allowed to stay for up to 15 days without one. The guide explains that staying longer requires getting a Visa before arriving in the country and filing an application in advance will allow you to obtain a 3-month Visa for approximately $30.

While the guide includes a breakdown of the weather year-round in Hanoi, there are two seasons that are heavily emphasized. The wet season, due to a Southwest monsoon, brings heavy rain every day and extreme humidity when the rain stops. In contrast, between October and December, the guide suggests that Hanoi experiences ideal weather between 22 and 29 degrees Celsius every day.

The low cost of living in Hanoi is a major attraction for digital nomads, with estimates putting the entire cost per month for one remote worker at less than $1,000. While this rate will depend on many factors individual to each traveler, the guide includes many suggestions for saving money while in Hanoi, such as leasing a scooter for $5 per day or purchasing one for longer stays.

The guide also covers some of the potential problems remote workers encounter during their time in Hanoi, such as the low internet speeds which average about 5 Mbps, the low number of English-speaking locals, and the dangerous roads.

Though there are many reasons to recommend Hanoi, the guide explains that it is not always a family-friendly environment, with many tobacco smokers, hostility towards LGBTQ+ tourists, and some concerns about safety in certain areas of the city.

Crucial Constructs specializes in helping digital entrepreneurs and remote workers improve their job skills and living conditions on the road, and they regularly produce detailed guides for popular digital nomad destinations around the world.
