Adverse Effects that Leads to Teen Porn Addiction

In this internet age, anyone can access porn and pornographic material, but sometimes individuals stumbled upon it through a link, spam or by mistake. It is an understatement to say that many benign words you type on google bring up porn websites. Some teens may instantly exit the website after they stumble upon it, whereas some may decide to stay on it out of curiosity. Studies show that boys are more likely to view porn intentionally, and the number of teen boys is higher than girls who have watch porn. However, it does not mean that girls are not at risk of porn addiction, though they are more likely to seek out romance and relationships to meet their sexual needs. Watching pornography does not lead to porn addiction all the time, but it can cause potential effects on teens. The best way a teen can deal with this problem is by taking teen porn addiction treatment.

Potential negative effects of viewing online pornography:

·         Cybersex addiction is the latest teen sex addiction trend, it involves activities such as; sexually-oriented chat rooms, role-plays sites, through mobile phones and other devices. It negatively impacts the teen’s emotional, psychological, neurological sexual and well-being of the entire generation. They could be also put in danger of meeting someone harmful offline or give out their address and contact details.

·         Online sexual solicitation/abuse is common, and it is important to understand how it happens. Online predators will seek kids with a history of sexual abuse, who feels alienated or alone, who posts sexually provocative pictures online, and talks about sex online with unknown people, in-person meetings with online friends or exposure to sexual materials. 

·         Sexting- which includes sending explicit pictures through phone or online is common amongst teen, it often involves peer pressure as well. It often increases the pressure to have sex during their encounter. Sexting can often lead to disaster, involving a picture send to a boyfriend or potential boyfriend is circulated among the contacts unknown to the sender.

·         It provides inaccurate information, shows violence, and it's degrading. Viewing pornography can damage a teen's view of sexuality, sexual identity, and intimacy. 

Teen porn addiction is common, and if you find out that your teen is one, then you should take immediate action. You should have plenty of conversations with the teen around sex and relationship, and discuss the concerning issues around pornography. Pornography is not a place for the teen to learn about intimacy and relationships. When you talk, be on their side, build a trustworthy relationship, and make them feel safe, so that they can communicate with you more openly. Just putting on restrictions will not help as they can outsmart you any day in every possible way. In some cases, the teens may be unable to break away from this addiction, therapy may be the potential solution.
