A few months ago, I had the opportunity to travel around Australia and New Zealand for my research work. I visited Hobart, Sydney and Auckland. During my one month journey, I stayed in several dorm-like facilities called hostels. I was quite happy staying in these lodging facilities.

Hostels are after all the most popular kind of lodging in Australia and New Zealand for budget travellers. They are basically a low-budget accommodation that's shared among travellers. So, I needed to share the rooms with several other travellers. Truly speaking, I practically had no problem staying in these hostels. I found them very inexpensive offering a lot of facilities like hotels.

Many of my friends reading this article would now obviously want to know the advantages of staying in a hostel. Here I have discussed about those advantages. So continue reading to know.

Inexpensive

Hostels are cheap accommodation options that are found all over the world. So, you can easily find a bed in these lodging facilities no matter wherever you go and the best part is the beds in the dorm are available at a very reasonable rate. For example when I was in Hobart, I booked a bed in the dorm at just $24 a night. It was the best budget hostel in Hobart. The bunker beds were quite comfortable and I had to stay along with 7 more travellers. However, the dorm was spacious and offered facilities like free wifi, shared bathrooms, a heater, comfortable bed and a lot more. The hostel also provided the option of private rooms and ensuite rooms for their guests. And those rooms were available at a cheaper rate as well.

Good location

You can find hostels in major cities and the best part is that they are located not quite far away from the tourist attractions. Some of them are even located in the heart of the city. Public transports are in close proximity and so travelling to areas that are far away from the lodging facility are also not an issue. Restaurants, pubs, shopping centres, super markets, theatres and all other entertainment spots and venues are either a walking distance or just a few kms away from the hostels.

Equipped kitchens

Many of you may not want to eat outside food and want to cook your own food for saving money. For them, hostels are undoubtedly the best option because in hotels you will not get this opportunity by any chance. The kitchens in hostels are fully equipped and so cooking the item of your choice won't be difficult at all.

There are also many other advantages like you can meet different people from around the globe during your stay and talk with them about the different things that you want to know about their country. Many hostels serve free breakfast as well. And as far as the security of your belongings is concerned, there are safes for locking up your belongings.
