Laparoscopic surgery in these days is very common method of surgery where a very small incision is made which is about .5 to 1.5cm wide and the surgery is done through a laparoscope. There is a huge advantage of laparoscopic surgery with respect to open surgery or traditional methods of surgery. There are various clinics that perform laparoscopic surgery in India.

Diseases like Hernia are operated mostly through laparoscopic surgery which is far better than the traditional ways in many ways. Hernia surgery has now become easy through this method as this has many advantages over the other methods. Some of them are;

  • Reduced chances of hemorrhage: laparoscopic surgery requires very small incision of 0.5-1.5cm which is quite less than the open method. The less is the cut the more it would be safer. Chances of hemorrhage rises when there is a big incision and greater loss of blood. This method reduces the chance of blood transfusion as well.

  • Small Incision: As mentioned above, laparoscopic surgery requires very small incision which is less painful and it takes lesser time to recover than the normal open surgery. The pain is lesser which has better impact on the patient and helps him/her to recover fast. Also the post surgery scars are very minute in comparison to the open method.

  • Lesser Pain and faster recovery: Though the time requirement is higher in this surgery but the recovery period is less. Patients are granted home leave at the day of operation or 24 hours after the operation. This helps in returning to everyday life much easily.

  • Reduced chances of exposure to infection: As the operation is laparoscopic, there is minute exposure which is beneficial in fighting with infection and other air borne diseases. In back times, there were higher chances of unsuccessful operations because of exposure to contaminated surrounding.

  • Less medication required: In most operations, the impact of surgery is lesser than the impact of medication for recovery. A patient requires less medication in this method than the open method because of swift operational methods and less cuts.

Although Laparoscopic surgery has become quite a common norm yet it has many disadvantages. One should look into both the cases and then go for surgery.
