Advantages and disadvantages of using the induction process

by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdom

Recruitment and induction go hand in hand in most companies and organizations. Recruitment is the first step that many companies use to find qualified employees. Your human resources department can recruit job candidates on their own or hire a hiring company to investigate candidates. After recruitment selections are made and employment offers are extended, the induction process begins.

What is it?

The process of induction is the process of introduction or initiation to which a new employee is submitted when he begins to work. This process can include a new job hiring by receiving a welcome pack outlining company rules and procedures, attending introductory training seminars and sexual harassment courses, becoming familiar with the layout of the office and learning about the processes of the office like when employees take lunches and other things. Most organizations also need to know about new hires on how email and communication systems work during the induction process.

Importance

The induction process is an important tool for a company to be effective. Proper induction can result in "establishing clear bases and expectations" between a company and its hiring, according to the Business Balls learning resource. Those expectations include corporate values, ethics, expected office etiquette and decorum and an understanding of what is expected in terms of job production. By instilling these expectations at the beginning, your new hires will have clear rules and training before they begin their work.

Advantage

Your company will probably have a higher retention rate by correctly inducing employees since the process is the first impression of your new employees of what their jobs will be and the corporate environment. According to Business Balls, the right induction acts as a reinforcement to the new hires that made the right choice when coming to work for you. Depending on the nature of your business, individual inductions may work better than group inductions, so you can more quickly bring in updated contracts on standards and expectations within the departments in which you will be working. Equipping your hiring with this knowledge will also make them more independent as workers.

Disadvantages

Incorrect induction can cost your organization to result in the retention of poor employees. For example, if an employee feels confused or lost after their induction process, they may or may not ask for help depending on their personality. In this situation, you could make mistakes until you get the right protocol, or you could take coworkers to train you with each problem against being trained before you start working. This creates a disadvantage in terms of employee efficiency, which can translate into poor company productivity.
