Advanced Tech Gyro While Drilling Assures Success and Profitability

by Stockholm Precision Tools AB Sales team

Geological surveys are becoming easier with the advent of new, improved and sophisticated tools such as the Gyro Tracer Directional from SPT.  A typical modern North Seeking Gyro survey instrument measures azimuth inclination, roll angle, dip, temperature. All this data is transmitted to a surface based portable computer system and can be viewed or processed later on. Working in temperatures up to 150deg. C. the gyro survey instrument is simple to operate and has been found to be extremely reliable and consistent in borehole surveys and orientation.

The sophisticated gyro survey instrument finds wide applications in the oil and gas mining industries such as blast hole operations, reverse circulation drilling, core barrel directional controlled drilling, wedge and motor orientation and oil explorations. An operator with basic training can setup the gyro survey instrument and sync it with the computer software for continuous surveys. The tool allows dip and azimuth measurements in continuous, multi or single shot survey mode. An operator can measure at different depths to coordinate path and position. This is possible during run in, run out or both. Further flexibility is available in the way the gyro survey instrument can be programmed take readings at different depth intervals.

SPT’s Gyro Tracer Directional survey instrument is the product of many years of research and development and has been designed to withstand the toughest environments. The Gyro Tracer Directional has drop capabilities and, capable of withstanding pressures up to 15000 psi. The gyro survey tool maintains accuracy to within 0.5 degrees while measuring azimuth, accuracy within 0.1 degrees during inclination measurements and gravity tool face accuracy of 0.1 degrees.

SPT’s Gyro Tracer Directional survey tool measures the Earth’s rotation to determine the azimuth of the borehole eliminating the interference of magnetic objects from the survey. There have always been uncertainties associated with borehole surveys and the type of sensors used, procedural errors, tool tolerances and geomagnetic data uncertainties affect the final outcome. SPT’s state-of-the-art Gyro Tracer Directional survey tool uses continuous north seeking gyros for direction and accelerometers take care of gravitational readings

Such accuracy of all parameters is not the outcome of trial and error but is the achievement of an intensely targeted goal to meet the current and future requirements of the mining and minerals exploration industry. The current scenario dictates efficiency and cost effectiveness of drilling and surveying processes and SPT’s Gyro Tracer Directional exceeds all expectations. In addition to conventional applications, sophisticated features of the Gyro Tracer Directional make it ideally suited for potentially new applications. SPT’s technological focus on meeting and anticipating emerging market trends and understanding customers’ needs has helped it come up with perfect solutions such as Gyro Tracer Directional that helps the realization of objectives precisely, accurately, in time and with the least effort and cost.
