It's not a secret that daily exercise rejuvenates mind & body and keeps many diseases at bay; but recent studies have shown that sedentary lifestyle in seniors increases the risk of physical disability appreciably which makes performing activities of daily living even harder with time. Apart from likely chances of physical disability, lack of physical activity also increases risk of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, high blood pleasure, anxiety, depression, etc. Hence, it's important for family and professional caregivers to encourage seniors to get more involved with the outer world and embrace an active lifestyle.

Some reputed employment-based agencies providing in-home senior care services in the Essex County, New Jersey (Montclair, Maplewood, etc.) actively customize their services to encourage their clients to be more physically and socially active. Companionship as a part of in-home senior care services allows seniors to join their caregivers for grocery shopping, running errands, helping with household chores as their health permits, etc.

Some agencies make caregiving a whole lot more interactive and their caregivers actuate and accompany their clients for walks in the neighborhood or to the church; take them to a local senior center where they can better their social circle and participate in various activities (exercise, wellness classes, dancing, painting, etc.); work together on community, social, or civic activities, etc. Such tasks not only improve physical health of seniors but counter many psychological problems that arise due to isolated living.

Family members play a crucial role in ensuring that their loved ones do not become sedentary and at least have a minimal amount of exercise and social interaction. Plan short trips on weekends; go to movies, museums or shopping together; encourage them to take yoga or tai chi classes; do gardening together, etc. It is important to understand that fitness levels vary from person to person and before starting a new activity taking medical advice from your physician is always prudent. Being physically active doesn't mean to exercise a lot but it requires to actively engage your mind & body to do a task. Assisted living and in-home senior care services have their own advantages and are quite adept & beneficial in keeping the seniors engaged in various physical & mental activities.
