The Hearst Castle

According to American Express Travel, the most popular tourist site in Northern California is midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Hearst Castle is a magnificent estate that has been left to the state of California as a state park. Julia Morgan, a well-known Bay Area architect, designed publisher William Randolph Hearst's 165-room home. The Castle was erected between 1919 and 1947 and was a favorite location for some of classic Hollywood's most famous stars.

"It was so moving, breathtaking, and incredible." I nearly couldn't believe what I was witnessing was genuine. "The sheer majesty nearly moved me to tears," says Georgia Johnson, Director of Sales and Marketing for AMT American Express Travel's Wedding Division. The Castle may only be seen by taking one of the four daily guided tours. Evening tours are available in the spring, fall, and certain holidays. The Castle was built using antique art and architecture imported from worldwide. Hearst's Castle is a historic mansion not to be missed.

The city of San Francisco

San Francisco is located just north of Los Angeles and Hollywood. The Bay Area has a colorful history and offers visitors a diverse range of attractions and entertainment. The Golden Gate Bridge is the most well-known landmark. Drive on it to get to Golden Gate Park, where the top photographers go to get the best photos of the Gate.

Explore Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco. Pier 39 features stunning views of San Francisco, the Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridges, over 110 unique stores, and 13 eateries. The Riptide Arcade, the Aquarium of the Bay, and the famous sea lions that roam the beaches are all located on Pier 39. Sail to Alcatraz, the historic prison where Al Capone once lodged. Tour Chinatown, Nob Hill, and Haight-Ashbury. For evening entertainment, don't miss the high-end restaurants, moving nightclubs, and city ghost tours. You'll never get bored with so much to see and do.

Sacramento

Sacramento, California's capital, has a multitude of exciting attractions. However, a visit to Sacramento would be incomplete without a tour of the state capitol building. This 19th-century granite structure is based on the United States Capitol. The California Legislature is also housed in the capitol, as is a public museum.

Visit the nearby historic town of Sacramento. This historic district, which includes restored buildings, museums depicting the 1849 gold rush, and specialty stores selling handcrafted candies, provides vitality to the Sacramento riverfront. Even actors you in the state's rich history. This is a must-see for any history buff. A reproduction of Sutter's mill, the first site gold was discovered in California, is only thirty minutes away. You, too, can mine for gold; there are still a few severe gold prospectors in this area.
