Education is the key to modernisation and progressive development in all walks of life. This aspect is reiterated by the fact that all modernised societies have laid emphasis on universalisation of education as the mode for sustained economic development. Hence the constant endeavour by the stakeholders to upgrade the scope of academics and in this every institution tries to outsmart the other to emerge as the superior school. Consequently, on their part, the parents, guardians and students who avail the services of these educational institutions, aspire to enter the portals of the best among them. And evident is the quest in each academic year as to which is the top ranked institution.

Such a search for optimised option ranges from the word of mouth and the performance of the school in public examinations like the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education), ISCE (Indian School Certificate Examinations) and State Board to finally the survey-cum-opinion polls conducted by different media houses and featured in their publications. For instance, a web portal named ‘Bestindiaedu’ highlights the different tidings like admissions, courses, examinations and results in the academic scenario. Periodically, it also features an item titled Top Schools in Delhi NCR (National Capital Region). Reports of this kind enable one to ascertain the Best School in Delhi NCR

This particular report had named Top 10 Schools zone and district-wise like South East Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, East Delhi, North Delhi, Central Delhi, Noida including Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Gurgaon and Faridabad in Haryana. The addresses and contact details were listed in this report. However, the modus-operandi of this exercise was not elaborated unlike similar survey conducted by The Hindustan Times newspaper. It had roped in the market research agency C Fore and the schools were rated based on 14 parameters. These yardsticks included academic rigour, competence of teachers, individual attention to students and sports. Thus one could check on the Best School in NCR from similar polls by various other media organs.

A few other portals like www.schooladmissioninformation.com and a magazine on digital learning, www.digitallearning.eletsonline.com also have been coming up with these ratings. Interestingly, a year ago, in contrast to all these rankings, only one NCR school figured in the list of CBSE’s top eight schools! The Bangalore-based monthly journal, Education World (www.educationworld.in) has been regularly featuring the best institutions under numerous categories at the national as well as regional levels. Academicians have termed the rating by this magazine to be authentic.

Despite the CBSE’s startling news of 2014 about just one school among the top eight, Delhi has emerged to be one of the top destinations for education in India. Over the past decade and half, the capital has witnessed phenomenal growth or setting up of new schools, colleges, universities and allied institutions as never before. Apart from youngsters hailing from other states in India, students from neighbouring countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh as well as African nations come to Delhi in huge numbers to pursue various courses in humanities, management, technology and science.
