Abortion Vs Miscarriage Vs Stillbirth - All About Pregnancy Loss
by Alice Thomas WriterEvery new life comes to this earth after making a complete journey of pregnancy period. For some, this journey is around 40 weeks, and for some, it can be as early as 30 weeks, but until there is nothing severe, they all get to go home with their parents and family. This due date can be precisely determined by ultrasound baby scanning services. However, not every pregnancy journey ends with childbirth. Today, we are going to explain the 3 ways in which it can end for pregnancy. These are namely, abortion, miscarriage, and stillbirth. Many people are unaware of the difference and assume them to be all the same. However, each has its distinctive characteristics. So, let's take a look at them, one by one.
1. Abortion
Abortion is the type of pregnancy loss in which the same is induced either medically or by the mother herself (though the latter can be highly unsafe and thereby NOT recommended). Abortion can be availed by the mother and father for several reasons. Some of them include congenital defects in the fetus, critical medical condition of the mother, and many more. Many a time the abortion is recommended by the doctor if the ultrasound baby scanning services show any severe complications for either/both the mother and the baby.
However, getting an abortion is a sensitive matter. This a very debatable and various nations have a various attitude towards the abortion law.
2. Miscarriage
Miscarriage is the pregnancy loss in which the developing fetus slips out of the mother’s uterus before the due date (the duration may vary). It can happen due to several reasons, like being medically unfit, carrying high-risk pregnancy, any kind of accident. However, many times, the exact reason cannot be determined.
Often it happens, the entire fetus does not come out of the uterus and a medical procedure, called D & C (Dilation and curettage) has to be carried out to the extract any residual tissue inside. It is compulsory to remove it because if it is left intact inside, it can cause tumor, abnormal growth or pain.
3. Stillbirth
Stillbirth is yet another type of pregnancy loss, in which the pregnancy is carried until the childbirth, but the baby born in this process are dead. The reasons for the same, are often quite similar to that of the miscarriage. But many times it too remains unknown. Stillbirths are particularly hard for the parents and family.
Having any of the above-mentioned pregnancy loss does NOT imply that the mother cannot have a healthy child in the future. However, they are recommended to take proper care of themselves and their baby during any subsequent pregnancies through proper medicines and ultrasound baby scan services.
Irrespective
of the reasons, the pregnancy loss can be hard on the family,
especially on the mother-to-be, more than anyone, because it creates
a turmoil on her, both physically and emotionally. The family and
partner should give them all their support and encouragement.
Remember only a healthy and happy mother is capable of bringing a
healthy and happy child.
