Going on holiday with the whole family is a great occasion so finding the right place to visit is very important. With our two young children we prefer to go on vacation where there are activities to ensure they keep busy and entertained. We have had some successful holidays in Spain and this year we decided to head to the east coast of Spain to the pretty town of Salou. We had heard this was a beautiful part of the world and went looking for exciting and luxury hotels in Salou. We were lucky enough to locate plenty of lavish residences there.

The PortAventura Hotel Gold River is a fantastic destination that is found at the heart of Salou that is ideal for families. This is clearly down to the hotel having a Wild West theme and it being right next door to the PortAventura Theme Park. The four-star residence is centred on the American Gold Rush and includes fantastic rooms and suites. Only an hour away by car from Barcelona the accommodation has three swimming pools and a wellness centre. Our air-conditioned rooms had many modern comforts such as a flatscreen television with satellite channels, telephone and free Wi-Fi internet. There were a huge range of other amenities too such as a desk and mini-bar. The luxury bathrooms had soft robes, slippers and a hairdryer.

We were really pleased to have free and unlimited access to the theme park and also the Costa Caribe Aquatic Park. Our children had such a brilliant time and we enjoyed the perks of the breakfast buffet and the excellent concierge service. My wife particularly enjoyed the amazing wellness centre where she got a massage and facial. The superb multi-lingual members of staff really looked after us and helpfully provided services such as laundry cleaning and currency exchange. We were also able to hire bikes that we cycled around the beautiful town of Salou.

The lodgings have great in-house eateries such as the Grand Hall Buffet that has amazing international cuisine. We also enjoyed the Grand Opera restaurant that is an excellent table-service eaterie that also serves meals from around the world. The River Bar was a favourite with our children as it has delicious burgers, light snacks and an array of beverages. The bar is set outdoors next to the swimming pool and was a fabulous place to relax. I found the Lobby Bar was also a great venue to unwind with its pretty terrace where we enjoyed pastries and coffee.

The luxury accommodation is very family-friendly and we were happy to meet many other parents with their children staying here. I noticed this was also a popular hotel with couples and groups of friends on holiday together for an entertaining time. We travelled to nearby Barcelona for a day trip during the vacation for an enjoyable visit. Costa Dorada is also close by to the hotel and we loved heading to its stunning white sandy beaches. I ventured to Lumine Golf Club with a fellow guest for a round of the game. We also went out to many amazing restaurants and cafes while staying at this beautiful residence. The family were so pleased to find a fantastic hotel such as this that allows us all to have fun together while on vacation.
