The monsoon season is a delightful period for everyone. The lush green all around beckons you to step outdoors and relish the cool drops or simply bask in the glory of nature. And for those who are enthusiastic trekkers and love to spend their leisure by enriching their lives with an experience amongst the flora, this is proves to be the best time to pack your backpacks and head on to some of the best treks in the country!

There are a variety of treks in and around Pune which offer a range of opportunities to all trekkers, be it amateurs in search of a light trek or experts who are willing to take up the challenge of a difficult one; the diaspora of prospects are enough and more to satisfy all requirements and expectations. So here is a list of hikes amongst which you will find the ones best suited to meet your monsoon cravings!

·         Kalsubai Trek (5400 ft.): This is the highest peak of Maharashtra and a part of the Sahyadri range and the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. Though the difficulty level of this trek is quite high, it is a must try for every passionate trekker since it offers beautiful views of waterfalls, low floating clouds, green plateaus, valleys, and temples at the peak!

 

·         Korigad Fort (3050 ft.): It is located 20 km from Lonavala and is a 50 minute trek which takes you through different routes filled with breath-taking views and varying landscapes including hiking on steps and witnessing green sceneries!

 

·         Lohagad Fort (3450 ft.): This ‘Iron Fort’ of Maharashtra located near Lonavala is an easy trek and offers a scenic view of the fort which comprises of various historic structures created in the Peshwa period which takes you back in time and makes you savour the prestigious history present amongst the nature!

 

·         Rajmachi Trek (2710 ft.): One of the most famous treks in the Sahyadri Mountains, it is enjoyed by various trekkers who love the ‘Twin Forts of Maharashtra”. One can explore the Rajmachi Lake along with the other interesting beauties present at the height. The forest all around also provide you the chance to view the life of different animals and birds thriving in their natural habitat!

 

·         Harishchandragad Trek (4691 ft.): This is a very hard trek and definitely tests the skills and tenacity of the trekker. However, covering over seven hills of the Sahyadri range, it proves to be the beautiful and highly elevating. The trek is made even better in the monsoon with showers and waterfalls developing the experience at sudden moments! The 7 hour trek proves to be awe-inspiring and is a must for enthusiastic trekkers to partake in.
