by Sujeet K. Digital Marketer

Maintaining a blog isn’t just about sharing some ideas with your audience over a web page, it is a lot about crafting a perfect post with the technicalities, ideas, information, etc. A blog post with catchy content, interesting style of writing, information and easy conversion rate is said to be an ideal one. And to craft this, one needs to know not just the minds and expectation of their readers but also the SEO techniques, SERP algorithms, keywords, etc.

The fundamentals of good blogging go into crafting unique content that satisfies the minds of the readers and results in good traffic. According to popular researches, 80% of the audience read the title but only 20% make it to the end. To improve from these metrics, knowing the right tricks is imperative. Here is a step by step guide to crafting the perfect blog post using SEO to gain more popularity!

Target those keywords right!

Creating the content on a topic might tempt you to target as many keywords as you find possible in a single post. But this habit of keyword stuffing is what harms the blog the most. Be it about a product, a service, an idea or information – keywords should be determined carefully and used proportionately.

Keep an eye on the selection of keywords based on what a viewer shall type on the search bar. Further, lay attention on keyword density, its usage in the content, drafting of URL, etc. With the right usage of the keywords, the content is optimized to the optimum performance.

Install an SEO Plugin

For someone who isn’t able to look into their blog post from an SEO, perspective can take the help of ready SEO plug-ins and make their tasks easy. These easy to install plug-ins on the popular content management systems can allow the bloggers to seamlessly enjoy the suggestions from the plug-in in regards to optimizing the content for the search engines.

Right from the correction in the headlines to building up keywords for the targeted post, the SEO plug-in assists in every step to make the content truly traffic oriented. SEO plugin also allows search for the right keywords, checking on content optimization, etc.

Use the h1 and h2 content i.e. headings smartly!

Headings aren’t just a dimension to your content, but also insights to the search engines on what your content is about. For ranking on the website, it isn't just the head title or meta description that gets captured, but also the h1 and h2 headings with their content that is acknowledged.

Wordpress allows for 6 headings and sub-heading formats allowing you to break your content into portions and share only reliable and valuable information. The quality of content put up on any of the subheadings with right keywords usage can lead your blog to rank on the SERP.

Maneuver title and alt texts for images and videos

When you are done writing the content it is time to add pictures and videos to make the blog post more relatable and realistic to the audience. And while you are at it don’t forget to change the title of the images, add the alt text or change the file name of the videos for maximum exposure.

The image title, alt text, file name, etc should also be optimized with the right use of keywords so that the SERP filters like images, videos, etc can make the content rank. If your text content fails to rank, your image or video shall make it amongst the top ranking.

Create links – inbound and outbound

A blog keeps on expanding as the number of published posts increase. As the posts get older they start losing their SEO technicalities and result in lesser traffic than before. To meet with the changing algorithms and keep the oldest of content relevant for the audience, creating links with the already posted content helps.

In your new blog posts, craft a way to create links with relatable posts from a past date to take traffic to them. In addition to it, work on creating outbound links with credible blogs, brands and other pages related to your content. As your website establishes a good linking with some other strong websites, SERPs consider this interlinking as a base to rank websites on their platform.

Work on the permalink

Permalink is the URL address that a particular blog post gets after the content has been shared on the blog. Mostly the content management systems form the permalink on their own but these can be customized to suit your choice too.

Choose to use the keywords on the permalink while keeping it short and to the point. There should not be any stop words, connectors, etc to increase the length of the permalink. The short, optimized and simple permalink gathers the most traffic.

Check the checklist

It is ideal to make a checklist of SEO techniques to be compulsorily applied to a blog post before it goes live. Right after you have penned down your idea, choose to work on each aspect of your blog post to optimize it for the blog.

Begin with getting your checklist printed and start ticking with the ones you have worked on. Publish the content on the blog only when you know you have followed some very essential SEO steps for your blog posts with the right idea.

Website Optimization

In the process of content optimization, we often forget the website optimization. The large size images, videos, etc are going to make the blog become slow for the audience to open. When the website loads slow, almost 45% of the audience is lost in the first few seconds. Work on the website SEO and optimize its performance to gather the most audience for your blog posts.

Sit with an intention to build content that shares quality content and meets the algorithms of the SERPs too. Follow the steps of SEO with a firm determination to define experiences and your blog is sure to show vast change when it comes to audience and popularity.
