Every website needs to be redesigned or transformed at least once in a long while. And content, being the vital component of the websites, requires the right strategy and planning for successful migration during the redesigning process. The content migration process involves the movement of the entire content and digital assets of the website from one platform to another either through automation or manually. AEM or Adobe Experience Manager is the modern era’s most effective CMS or Content Management Solution and is implemented to build contextual and personalized experiences for websites. The process of migrating content from one platform to AEM or redesigning the existing implementation is defined by four key steps. Read on to acknowledge these steps of Adobe Experience Manager migration and understand their own defined process.

CONTENT EVALUATION

Not all existing content is worth migration; hence, the evaluation process comes into play. The task here involves the evaluation of the content in terms of its quality and quantity. For that matter, defining and identifying the content and finding its current source and state, are some integral processes of this foremost step. Furthermore, the elimination of outdated content from the evaluation metrics boosts the process.

CONTENT MAPPING

This step involves the identification of old attributes that need to be carried forward and corresponding properties in the AEM JCR. Mapping here means defining redirects for virtual hosts and vanity URLs, for everything related to a website is content and needs to be taken into account during the migration process.

CONTENT MIGRATION

Once the content is evaluated and mapped properly, the third step is to design an actionable plan by considering various factors, including volume, structure, time vs cost, content cleansing, and technical feasibility. There are three methods available to take out the migration plan.

·         Manual Migration

It is a labor-intensive and time-consuming process and used when only a few pages or content groupings need to be migrated. Another major reason to go for it manually is the incompatible content that doesn’t structure with the new system and needs lots of cleaning.

·         Automation Migration

When technical feasibility is the need of the hour, this method is opted for. Moreover, the content or pages, in this case, are large in number, they are structured already and don’t require further cleaning.

·         Hybrid Migration

The content or pages needed to be transferred are enormous and contain both structured and unstructured. Besides that, in this method, less of the unstructured content needs to be cleaned.

CONTENT VERIFICATION

Now is the time to verify if all the foregoing steps have resulted in a successful migration. It can be checked by ensuring that migrated content and newly authored content coexist without any hindrance and in the right location.

So, content evaluation, mapping, migration, and verification are four key steps of the overall AEM migration process that many experts fail to implement properly. But the foregoing guide is in their rescue and guides them toward the alignment of each step for a successful result.
