When you are planning to visit a popular hill station, often it is a confusing task to prepare a good itinerary. Nainital is one such place which is bestowed with several tourist attractions. It is a wonderful hill station which offers a bag full of memories to the visitors. Here is a 5 must visit spots of Nainital.



Nainital is situated at an altitude of 1,938 metres. It is a favourite tourist spot among Indians and witness good crowds of foreigner as well. Surrounded with Himalayan mountains and lakes, Nainital is a charming hill station. With the influx of more tourists, the number of hotels in Nainital has increased since past decades.



The hill station got its name from the famous Naini Lake. So, it is the first among our list of top 5 places.

Naini Lake: The lake is located at the centre of the town. It is indeed the crowd puller. The awesome lake amidst the mountains is a wonderful creation. Boating, kayaking and rowing are the popular activities here. The abundant scenic beauty of the place will surely win your heart. At night, the street lightings and the lamps along the lake is a sight to behold. Near and around the lake you will see every necessary establishment. Exploring the lake is a refreshing and joyous task for the travellers.



Naini Devi Temple: the temple is located along the Lake. Wrapped with mythological tales, the Naini Devi Temple is an important pilgrimage centre of Nainital. This is the spot where Sati's eye fell, creating the lake. The Naini Devi Temple is one of the must seen places.



The Nainital Zoo: it is a pleasure to explore a zoo in such altitude. Well, Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo is commonly known as Nainital Zoo and it houses a good collection of flora and fauna. Barking deer, Himalayan black bear, Siberian tiger, etc are some of the high altitude animals you will witness here. The zoo remains closed on Mondays and National Holidays, so, do keep that in mind and plan accordingly.



Ropeway: travel about 2.5 km from the main township to enjoy the memorable ropeway ride. From Nainital, it connects Snow view point. Snow view point is located at an altitude of 2270 meters. If you want to skip the ropeway you can travel by car as well. However, this lovely ropeway journey of 15 mins is a reason to bring tourists back again. It is open from 10 am to 4 pm.



Naini Peak: situated at an altitude of 2611 meters, Naini Peak is the highest peak of the town. An apt place to enjoy the breathtaking view of Himalayan mountains, Naini Peak also offer a panoramic view of the town. It is just 6 km from the town.

Besides, there are many places to visit in Nainital, so, its is always recommended to plan your trip accordingly.



The nearest airport is Pantnagar which is 65 km away from Nainital. As mostly private and chartered flights operate from here, you should check before planning. Most of the time travellers land in Delhi airport and from there taxis, cabs and tourist buses are available. Kathgodam railway station serves Nainital. It is only 34 km away and it is well-connected with trains from New Delhi, Lucknow and Howrah. Taxis and cycle-rickshaws are the popular local transport in Nainital.
