Cow’s milk is widely consumed and produced in India and forms an essential item of the kitchen. Although the cows are kept at an extremely atrocious and bad living environment in the farms, milk still sells. However, there are other forms of milk varieties which are healthier than a cow’s milk. Mothers have a tendency of feeding their children with milk and at times tend to force feed them. Conventional alternatives to lactose

There are a lot of varieties of milk like substance in India which can be consumed in place of the cow’s milk. Soy milk is gaining popularity for those who are in state of Lactose Intolerance and wish to consume a healthy drink for the body. Soy milk is nutritious and provides the body with the required nutrients like protein, is flavones, calcium and important vitamins and minerals. Many users debate over the thickness of the soy milk and find it difficult to consume. There is a solution to that as well in the form of hemp milk which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and helps in the reduction of cholesterol and blood pressure in the human body. Likewise, other types of milk constitute of almond milk which is a low-calorie substitute to the conventional cow’s milk. You can prepare almond milk at home to avoid the consumption of extra fortified ingredients in a packaged drink.

Unconventional approaches to cow’s milk

An unconventional drink which is making a name in the market is the rice milk which is made out of brown rice. This is for those who are not only allergic to lactose, but also to soy. It is targeted largely to vegan diet followers and is extremely protein-rich. Then there is hazelnut milk which is similar to the cow’s milk, but creamier and thicker than the former. You can consume it raw or can add chocolate, almonds or other flavorings to make it tasty (in accordance with your taste buds). The milk is believed to be an excellent blend of coffee. Other variants include flax milk which is made with cold pressed flax oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids and low in trans-fat and cholesterol. Oat milk and cashew milk are also picking up well among the consumers and act as milk substitutes, but cannot replace ‘milk’ as a whole.
