Neck pain is described as any type of discomfort felt in one of the structures of the neck. These include nerves, muscles and the area between the bones. Ask your doctor if you can take over-the-counter pain relievers. Flexibility exercises may also relieve the pain. Replace your mattress or pillow if it’s over 10 years old. You can also ask your doctor for a neck collar to help relieve discomfort. Limit your activity for a few days to relieve neck pain. Should limit twisting of your back or heavy lifting for several weeks after the pain begins. Don’t play sports, engage in strenuous exercise or play golf until your neck pain improves.

You should seek medical attention right away if you have a fever. You should also call your doctor if you have symptoms of a heart attack that include nausea, vomiting arm pain or sweating. Symptoms should go away within one week with self-care. If you’re neck pain is caused by injury then you should seek medical attention right away. If you must go to the doctor, you can expect to have a physical exam. Your doctor will likely order x-rays of the neck, or a CT scan of the head and neck. Your doctor will also take blood tests for a complete blood count.

If you’re neck pain is caused by improper ergonomics in the office, then take steps to improve your situation. You can synchronize your workstation and office chair by sitting as close to your desk as possible. Make sure your posture is correct. You should not have to slouch to reach her computer. Your office chair should be adjusted to accommodate your height. Make sure you’re not sitting too high in your chair. Your feet should be flat on the floor with your back straight. Legs should be bent at a 90 degree angle. Raise your work surface if needed. This will reduce the strain on your back and neck.

There are other tips you can follow to reduce neck pain such as sleeping on your back, sleeping with a cervical pillow or purchase a new mattress. Neck pain is an uncomfortable situation that you don’t have to live with. Follow these tips to reduce the pain you feel your neck and back.
