A Guide to John Lennon Memorabilia

by Amelie Richards Blogging

Liverpool is a city with a rich history, and countless reasons to visit. Perhaps above all, however, it is still known as John Lennon's city. You're never far from a celebration of Lennon and The Beatles in Liverpool, and there is certainly no shortage of John Lennon memorabilia.

Any Beatlemaniac has a plethora of options to explore when seeking to investigate John Lennon's Liverpool. Fly into John Lennon Airport, then take a taxi to the Mathew Street Wall of Fame to visit the statue. Be sure to check out the Liverpool College of Art, where I first met John. Pop to Menlove Avenue and you can even take a wander around Lennon's childhood home. None of this even mentions The Beatles Story museum on Albert Dock. There is no denying that John Lennon memorabilia is everywhere you turn in Liverpool.

The good news is, you do not need to travel to the North-West of England to pick up John Lennon memorabilia. You can do so from the comfort of your own home, shopping on the very website that you're reading this. As a long-time friend of Lennon and a qualified fashion designer, I was responsible for some of his most iconic outfits. When I started making them, returning to Liverpool after an amazing time working as a textile designer in Rome, I had no idea that I would still be creating replicas almost sixty years later!

Without doubt, the most famous piece of John Lennon memorabilia in my portfolio is his legendary leather cap. I first designed this headgear for John in 1963, and he wore it constantly. Unfortunately, I was never going to be able to get away with making just one. Wherever John went, passionate fans would gather - and anybody that got close enough to him would snatch the cap from his head. Obviously I have no idea where the original is now.

All the same, I decided to revisit this design and you can look the part yourself. The cap is just part of the  John Lennon memorabilia available on my site, as I always have a wide range of T-Shirts and other mementos. For many, though, the leather cap sums up John Lennon Liverpool's favourite son. I am honoured that I got to play a part in building the Lennon legend, and I am proud to have known John and called him my friend during his lifetime.
