An assignment needs to be attractive to make it really interesting. Readers will complete the full assignment at one go, only when they get some interest to read further. So, like a story, a nursing assignment writing needs to have a few "perfect hooks" to keep a reader attached to it throughout.

What is a "Hook"?
It is a sentence, or a paragraph that suddenly catches attention of a reader. After reading it, the reader can’t stop reading, because it makes them curious, why the author has written this? The reader is persuaded to read further.

In fact, a "perfect hook" can work wonders with an assignment. For a student of nursing, an assignment is too important for their career, because the marks obtained here are added with the final marks, which in turn determine the grade in the examination.

Nature of a perfect hook
A perfect hook needs to have one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Catching
  • Provoking
  • Interesting
  • Enigmatic
  • Motivating

It should possess at one of these characteristics, but possessing more than one of these characteristics can make a hook a really interesting one.

How many hooks are required and where?
Students can apply one or more hooks in an assignment. It all depends on the nature, and length of the assignment:

  • If the assignment is within 1500 words, then one perfect hook after the introduction is sufficient. If possible, the hook can be applied in the title, otherwise, within the first 200 words, the hook is to be used.
  • If the assignment is within 3000-4000 words, then at least two hooks are required. The first one will be as stated above, and the second one after 2000 words.
  • If the assignment is more than 4000 words, then apply at least two perfect hooks as state above, and then one more hook within the last 1000 words.

In fact, the first two hooks are really important. When a reader has crossed these two hooks, he will definitely read the entire assignment. The last hook persuades the reader to read the assignment at one goes. In absence of it, there is a possibility that he or she may keep a bookmark and read the remaining part sometime later, but he will definitely complete the assignment.

Types of Hooks
It is really important to understand, what types of hook will be suitable in a nursing assignment. Here are different kinds of hooks currently prevalent in nursing assignments:

  • Putting a question
  • Using a contradictory suggestion
  • Showing an interesting data
  • Putting a controversial issue
  • Writing something funny

The writer needs to be cautious enough, while using a hook, because a wrong one may spoil the entire assignment or damage the impression of the student to the examiner or lecturer.
