A Detailed Overview of the variety of electrodes

by Sanjeev Yadav SEO Consultant
If you are willing to work in the sector of welding tools and equipment, it is important for you to know about Welding Electrodes. Considered as one of the essential tool is used for welding, the welding electrode commonly called a gun or machine produces electric current which helps the metal to melt making the binding process much easier and simple. These electrodes can be used in various applications depending entirely on the ability of the welder.

Welding Electrodes- A Basic Description

An electrode can be described as a coated wire made out of metal. The materials which are used in the manufacture of the electrode needs to be similar to the metal which is being welded. Briefly, the long list of electrodes can be classified under two sub-heads, namely, the consumable and the non-consumable electrodes.

In case of shield metal arc based welding, SMAW or popularly called the stick electrodes are used. They are consumable which means that dusting the welding process, the metal present in form of the electrode, melts and gets used.

However, in case of Tungsten Inert Gas based welding, TIG electrodes are used. The TIG electrodes are non-consumable and do not melt or become a part of the weld. In case of the gas-based welding, the electrodes are fed with wire continuously. This site takes part in the welding procedure and melts itself to become a part of the metal that is being welded.

What are various types of electrodes?

Well, coming to the type of electrodes sold by the Welding Electrodes Exporter in India. It can be classified as:

The Bare Electrodes:
The electrodes used for bare welding are usually made out of wire compositions. The composition of the metal wire depends entirely on the requirement for the specific application. These electrodes typically have no special coatings except the ones which are used for wire drawing. Usually, the costing present on the wire drawing owns some light stabilizing effect on the arc. Apart from it, these electrodes do not lead to any other consequences. The bare electrodes are commonly used for welding items made out of metals like manganese, steel, etc. It is sometimes even used for welding other types of metal bodies which do not require a coated electrode.

The Lightly Coated Electrodes:

These electrodes usually have a definite composite. These electrodes are light coated using processes like washing, dipping, wiping, tumbling or spraying. The coatings help in improvising the characteristic of the arc stream. The coating serves several functions which can be described as:

•    It helps in dissolving or reducing the content of impurities like oxides, sulphur, or phosphorus.

•    It helps in changing the surface tension of the molten metal is that the globules leave the end of the electrode which is small and frequent. This characteristic allows the molten metal to become more uniform and smooth for welding.

•    It helps in increasing the stability of the arc by bringing in materials which ionize readily when they enter the arc stream.

Apart from these two types of electrodes, you can also get heavy coated electrodes from Welding Electrodes Exporter from Chhattisgarh. These electrodes are coated through the processes like dipping and extrusion and are greatly used in heavy welding tasks.
