A Complete Guide for Netgear WN3500RP (N600) WiFi Range Extender



Netgear WN3500RP (N600) WiFi range extender increases the reach of a WiFi network by enhancing the existing internet signal and boosting the overall signal quality and strength over long distances. Netgear WiFi extender setup repeats the internet signals from an existing and up-to-date WiFi router or an access point (AP).

First of all, we want you to have a look onto the LEDs of your WiFi range extender so that there shouldn't be any confusion further.


LED Descriptions of Netgear WN3500RP (N600) WiFi range extender


Power LED


  • Solid Amber: WN3500RP extender is booting.

  • Solid Green: WN3500RP is properly powered on.

  • Off: WN3500RP is powered off.


2.4GHz Link Rate LED


As a matter of fact, this LED indicates the 2.4 GHz WiFi connection your existing router or the AP (access point) and the WiFi range extender.


  • Solid Green: Best connection.

  • Solid Amber: Fair connection.

  • Solid Red: Poor/worst connection.

  • Off: No connection.


5 Ghz Link Rate LED


5 Ghz Link Rate LED indicates the 5 GHz connection between your smart WiFi devices (router and the range extender).


  • Solid Amber: Good connection.

  • Solid Green: Best connection.

  • Solid Red: Poor connection.

  • Off: No connection.


Device to the Extender LED


  • Solid Green: WN3500RP is properly connected to the PC or a laptop.

  • Off: WN3500RP is not connected to any device (computer or a laptop).


The WPS (WiFi-Protected Access) LED


  • Solid Green: WPA or WPA2 (WiFi security) is enabled.

  • Blinking Green: WPS connection is in progress.

  • Off: WiFi security is disabled.


Now, we will move towards the Installation of WN3500RP WiFi range extender


  • Unbox your device.

  • Place it near to your existing WiFi router.

  • Apply a good power supply to it.

  • Connect it to your existing WiFi network.

  • Plug it into an electrical outlet.

  • After a few seconds, the power LED on your device will become solid green.


Connect your device to an existing WiFi network properly (important step)


Extend the range and reach of your existing WiFi network by following any one of the method given below.


  • Connect with web browser setup

  • Connect with WPS


First, we will discuss the Web Browser Setup and after that, the WPS method


Web browser Setup


  • First of all, connect to the Netgear_Ext (default) WiFi network. To do so, use a WiFi network manager on a computer or laptop.

  • As soon as the connection with your device is established, the Device to Extender LED will blink.

  • After that, open a relevant and up-to-date web browser from the connected device.

  • It will take you directly to the Netgear Genie smart setup page.

  • Don't worry if you are do not get redirected to Netgear Genie setup wizard page, just launch a web browser and enter www.mywifiext.net (for Windows PC) web address in the URL field.


Note: If you want to configure your iOS and Apple device with the Netgear WN3500RP (N600) WiFi Range Extender, then use mywifiext.local web address. But make sure that your smart device is properly connected with the range extender (wired or wirelessly).


  • Now, enter the default login credentials. Your WN3500RP extender will automatically searches for the WiFi networks active in your area.

  • You have to select a 2.4 GHz network to extend and click on Continue.

  • Type in the network key/password/passphrase/security key in the 'Password' field and click on Continue.

  • After that, select a 5 GHz WiFi network to extend and click on Continue button.


Note: Be careful in typing the password. There shouldn't be any typos.


  • If your existing WiFi router does not support the 5 GHz band, then please hit the 'Skip' button.

  • Now, enter the network password/passphrase/security key in the 'Password' field and click on Continue after that.


The next screen will display.


  • Next, in the 2.4G SSID and 5G SSID (network name) field, type the SSIDs for your new extender wireless networks.

  • Once done, click on Continue.


Note: By selecting the checkbox you can use the same security settings as well as the settings for your existing WiFi network.


The security settings are applied successfully and the next screen will display.


Note: On iPhones, iPads, and MacBook computers, the screen will close automatically.


  • Now, on a computer or laptop, use a WiFi network manager in order to connect to the new extender's WiFi network.

  • Also, note this down that you have to repeat this step for all of your WiFi-devices and computers.

  • In case the screen is still displayed on your computer, laptop or WiFi device, please select the checkbox at the bottom of your screen and click on the Continue button.


Now, a message will be displayed confirming that Netgear WN3500RP extender is connected to your existing WiFi network successfully.


  • Click on the Finish button to complete the Netgear WiFi extender setup process.

  • Unplug your Netgear device and place it to a new (airy and neat) location closer to your main router and area with a poor internet connectivity.

  • Plug in your Netgear WN3500RP (N600) WiFi range extender.

  • As soon as you plug your range extender into an electrical outlet, the Power LED on your device will become solid green.


Important Tip: Make use the Link Rate LEDs to guide you choose a perfect spot to place your router and the range extender.

WPS Setup


The WPS setup lets you join a secure wireless network without typing the SSID (network name) and password.


  • In the first place, you have to make sure that your range extender is properly plugged in.

  • After that, you have to press the WPS button on your Netgear WN3500RP (N600) WiFi range extender.

  • As soon as to do this, the WPS LED will blink.

  • Now, within 3-4 minutes, push the WPS button on your main router or access point (AP) as well.


As a matter of fact, the WPS LED on the extender will become solid green, the 2.4GHz Link Rate LED will light up, and the extender will connect to your existing WiFi network securely.


Important Points


  • In case the 2.4GHz Link Rate LED does not light up, then try again later after a couple of minutes.

  • If your main WiFi router supports the 5GHz band, repeat the 3rd and the 4th point to connect the WN3500RP extender to the 5GHz band properly.

  • After that, find the new extended SSID on your computer, laptop or any WiFi device.


Depending on whether the range extender is connecting to your WiFi network in 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, the extender’s SSID (wireless network name) will change to your existing WiFi network name (SSID)with _2GEXT or _5GEXT.


  • Now, you are free to connect your WiFi-enabled to the new extended WiFi network (Secure).

  • Please use the same WiFi password/security key for Netgear mywifiext login as well that you use for your existing WiFi router.

  • Unplug your Netgear WN3500RP WiFi range extender.

  • Place it to an area that is known a5s dead zones.

  • Once done, plug your Netgear device into a damage-free electrical outlet.

  • As soon as you plug in your device, the Power LED on it will become solid green.

  • Push the power (on/off) button on your device once if you do not see any LED activity.


How to Log In to the range extender to access and view its Settings


Once you have successfully installed your range extender, you can now log in to the Netgear extender mywifiext page to view and change the WN3500RP extender’s settings.


  • Using a wired connection, connect a computer or laptop to the WiFi range extender with via an Ethernet cable.

  • Pull up an internet browser onto your connected device and enter www.mywifiext.net or the default IP address of your device into the address field.


A login screen will display.


  • Enter your personalized or default login credentials.


Netgear Genie login page will appear.


  • Here you can make changes according to your needs.
