The Certified Financial Planner (The CFP) Certification is a designation awarded to those financial planners and other professionals who were able to complete the formal Certified Financial Planner course program and passed the Certified Financial Planner Certification Examination. This prestigious and globally acclaimed certification is awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
To earn such a strong credential it is important that you pass the most challenging exam in the financial services industry and that is the Certified Financial Planner Exam. The CFP examination is taken by financial planners as well as other professionals who want to establish a stronger career in both the financial planning sector and the financial services industry. These are also professionals who want to take their careers to another level, thinking of changing to a new career, getting a wide scope of financial education, enhancing their skills, apply for a higher or different job position, earn a higher salary compensation and most of all keep up with the standards of the financial services industry.

The Certified Financial Planner Exam is administered by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards (CFP Board) in which it focuses on over a hundred of topics that talk about the financial planning field. This includes the retirement planning program investment planning program, income tax planning program, estate planning program, insurance planning program, and many more. The exam itself is 10 hours long that is given in 2 days. There will be one four-hour session on Friday and two three-hour sessions on Saturday. This is consists of 285 multiple choice questions with one case study per session. The total number of questions that is related to case studies usually varies from one exam to another. But approximately 20% of the exam is consisting of case study questions. The criterion for the passing rate is measured according to the set level of required competency rather than against the scores of other individuals who have taken the same exam.

For you to qualify in taking the CFP Exam it is important that you complete all the requirements that are set by the CFP Boards. You must meet the educational qualifications wherein you have to earn a Bachelor’s degree or higher from any form of discipline as long as it is from an accredited university. You are also required to complete the formal CFP course program wherein you are asked to take special course subjects that are vital in financial services. Another requirement is that you have to comply with is the three years full time work experience of any career related in the financial services industry. After completing both the educational and work experience you must then submit for a background then lastly, it is important that you will adhere to the Code of Ethics set by the CFP Board.
