A case in favor of blue light blocking glasses

Although artificial light is a relatively modern invention, continuous exposure to it is drastically conditioning our biology. It may sound a bit unusual but if you think about it, it indeed makes a lot of sense. For most of the history, people relied on the natural light from the sun to wake up and sleep. What this means is that the sunlight naturally directed the sleeping patterns of our ancestors. With the emergence of electricity, however, we were immediately exposed to the light that would only naturally occur in the daytime. With electronic devices such as computers, TVs, smartphones and mobile tablets, this exposure has become even more critical, and these modern gadgets are unusually high in blue light.

The problem with blue light at night is that it impacts cortisol patterns, melatonin, and circadian rhythm – all of which can mess with our natural sleep cycles. Extensive researches even indicate that the disruption of the natural sleep cycle from blue light at night is a significant causal factor to the marked increase in obesity and chronic illnesses. There is also reliable data linking this disturbance of the sleep cycle to higher rates of heart conditions, high blood pressure, and other cardiovascular problems.

So, what is the solution?

Of course, keeping one's distance from electronic gadgets for a long time is one way to fix many sleep difficulties. But is that even feasible in this digital age?

As it turns out, there is a more workable alternative to forsaking your iPhone if you want to limit your excessive exposure to blue light: blue light blocking glasses. Blue light blocking glasses have garnered a rather large amount of popularity in only a few years. As the name implies, blue light blocking glasses are eyeglasses designed to block blue light (or at least most of it) from entering our eyes. Various studies have proven that wearing them can serve many serious purposes, including protecting eyes, producing melatonin, improving cortisol patterns, aiding night sleep, supporting mitochondria, and so much more.

Contrary to what many people think, blue light blocking glasses are not hideous, hunting-type glasses. Not anymore, at least. There are now many blue blocking glasses dealers offering some great (and even trendy) blue light blocking glasses that you can easily pull off as a fashion accessory!
