A Brief on IAS Exam 2016

Union Public Service Commission conducts IAS (Indian Administrative Service) exam in two phases. Phase I refers to preliminary examination commonly known as CSAT where the candidates are tested on their knowledge of General Studies and Aptitude. Phase II is the mains examination which is attempted by the candidates qualifying the prelims stage of IAS exam. This year, IAS exam will be held on 07 August 2016 (Prelims) and 03 December 2016 (Mains).

  • Opening date of application form- 23 April 2016. 
  • Closing date of application form- 20 May 2016. 
  • IAS Exam Date- 07 August 2016 (Prelims), 03December 2016 (Mains). 
 
IAS 2016 Exam- Eligibility Criteria 
 
Eligibility criteria is the basic requirement that the candidate has to fulfill before applying for IAS exam.The eligibility criteria is concerned with applicant’s nationality, age limit, academic qualification and physical standards. It is mandatory for the applicants to follow the eligibility criteria as later on if it is found that candidates are not eligible then they will not be allowed to participate in recruitment process. Eligibility details are as follow. 
 
1. The age of applicant should be between 21 & 32 years. 
2. Candidate should be Indian citizen or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement. 
3. Candidate should have attained graduation degree from recognized university or institute. 
4. Candidate should be mentally and physically fit as per the standards of IAS exam. 
 
IAS 2015 Exam- Procedure to apply for it 
 
To apply for IAS exam, candidates have to fill in application form. Application form for upcoming Indian Administrative Service exam will be available from 16th May 2015 in online mode. IAS application form will be completed in two parts. Detail of each part is described below. 
 
Part I - In the part , candidates have to supply all the educational, personal and communication details. Details given in the application form must be complete and authentic. False or misleading information can lead to cancellation of form. After successful completion of part I of application form, candidates will proceed to part II. 
 
Part II- Here, candidates will have to make the application fee payment. Application fee is Rs.100 which can be paid through net banking facility/debit or credit card. To make the payment in offline mode, candidates have to remit fee via pay-in-slip to any branch of State Bank of India. ST/SC/PwD and female candidates are exempted from fee payment. 
 
Important- Aspirants admitted to main examination will have to make a further payment of Rs. 200/-.  
 
IAS 2016 Exam- Admit Card/Hall Ticket 
 
Union Public Service Commission will issue IAS admit card/hall ticket to all those candidates who have completed the application form in all respects. Admit card will not be issued in offline mode. It will be only available on the official website of UPSC. To obtain IAS admit card, applicants have to login to their account by entering some basic details. As the admit card is the proof of candidate’s identity and authenticity so it must be brought by applicants to the examination hall.
