A Brief Discussion on Swimming Pool Sanitization Methods

by Michael Griffin Michael
Even though a large number of individuals might not pay attention but swimming pool sanitation is extremely necessary for keeping bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoans, algae, and a wide range of other harmful microorganisms at bay. Starting from using chlorine to adding extra minerals- each method has its own fair share of pros and cons. Know more by checking out below-mentioned pointers right away.

  • Bromine

Just like irritating noise generated from a typical swimming pool pump motor can be reduced to a great extent by installing swimming pool pump cover, contaminants mounting up in a swimming pool can be successfully eliminated with bromine. This particular chemical element has garnered enough recognition probably because it is stable, does not smell pungent, and remains effective for a prolonged period. But owing to high price, bromine cannot unfortunately be afforded by everyone.

  • Chlorine

Chlorine is perhaps most popular because it kills bacteria through a very easy chemical reaction. No matter if a person is using liquid chlorine, chlorine tablets, or granular chlorine, the element in any form simply breaks down into hypochlorite ions and hypochlorous acid, then oxidizes microbes for neutralizing or destroying them in absolutely no time. Chlorine can be stored but it dissipates quickly and cause several health issues.

  • Ozone

Ozone is an exceptionally strong sanitizer formed when free atoms of oxygen collide with free molecules of oxygen. Apart from obviously killing bacteria, it also alleviates need for swimming pool maintenance by clogging oils and dirt. That being said, latest studies effectually manifested that ozone is not sufficient as it cannot provide relief from all contaminants as well as might have dangerous concentrations.

  • Minerals

We all know that using a durable enclosure can act as sound barrier for pool pump but very few of us are aware that adding advantageous minerals such as sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, etc. can protect swimming pools from debris and germs. One of the biggest benefits of relying on this sanitization method is that it enhances overall water quality, not leading to dry or itchy skin, and damaged hair.

  • Ionizer

Ionizer works by generating ions of hard metals and copper into swimming pool. The said method has acquired much popularity because it is expensive and unlike other elements specified in this list does not negatively impact any equipment. However, there are a few disadvantages people must be aware of.

  1. Ionizer cannot oxidize water.
  2. Ionizer act very slowly.
  3. Copper staining is a major possibility.

Implementing any one method specified above with immense caution would surely help a swimming pool remain clean, and avoid spread of dangerous diseases.
