A Brief Comparison of the Prevalent Smart TV Technologies
by Tanjni Pache Content WriterUHD Smart Tv is a
term which is used interchangeably with 4K but there is a slight difference between
the two in their technicalities. UHD or “Ultra High Definition” is a term which
has been derived from the 4K standard of digital cinema. The local multiplex,
however, shows movies in the native 4K resolution of 4096 X 2160 pixels while
the 43 inch tv and above have a UHD
format with a resolution of 3840 X 2160 which is slightly lower than the 4K
multiplex resolution. This difference is hardly noticeable to the standard
viewer and hence for all practical purposes, UHD Smart Tv and the 4K Smart Tv is
believed to be one and the same.
The extra pixels
that are added onto the UHD Smart Tv or 4K Tv give it a picture quality which
is rarely experienced anywhere. The output images are a joy to watch since they
are
·
Sharply defined,
·
Precisely detailed,
·
The colours are vibrant,
·
The picture quality clear with an amazing mix of colour
contrast and brightness.
This picture
quality thus manages to capture the eye of the viewer because it makes the
content being displayed so much more interesting and intriguing. But this
output is generally meant for Smart TVs of larger sizes so that they can be
watched from even a short distance with the same effect. This is because for
the UHD or 4K Tv:
·
The closer the viewer sits,
·
The better the visual field is filled up and
·
Thus greater is the immersion.
Thus irrespective
of the viewing distance there is no impact on the visual output which remains
razor sharp throughout. This makes for some ground-breaking technological
advance which also gets translated into the price of the same thereby making
these Smart TVs priced much more than the other FHD Smart TVs or the HD Smart TVs.
Today viewing
technology has proceeded from the light emitting diodes used for backlighting
the display to something known as OLED. The basic difference between the
acronyms of LED and OLED Smart TVs stems literally from the presence of the alphabet
“O” in the acronyms. It stands for “Organic”, the word responsible or the huge
difference in the OLED and the led tv
price. Today, however, in spite of the higher price, OLED technology is
being incorporated in 4K or UHD Smart TVsto make for a technology which results
in ultra-thin and light Smart TVs displaying an incredible, never seen before
contrast.
Pitching the two
technologies together would give a clear picture as to why the prices of the
OLED UHD Smart TVs are so much higher than the other LED TVs. Some of the
factors in which the OLED technology scores are:
·
Black level which is defined as the ability of the
Smart Tv display to ensure that the blacks produced are deep and dark,
·
Better response time and comparatively much lesser
lag,
·
All round viewing without any change in the picture
quality,
·
Lesser consumption of electricity etc.
The price of the
OLED Smart 4K Tv, however, makes it beyond the reach of the common man. Hence
these TVs are only favoured by the rich and the famous for the cinema like
output it gives.
