Mercedes-Benz CL-Class: A Legacy of Luxury and Innovation

The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is a 2-door coupe luxury car, grand tourer, and personal luxury car, similar to the Mercedes-Benz S- and CLS-Class. The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class, produced from 1992 to 2014 in Europe and the US, preceded the SEC, 280SE Coupe, and S-Class Coupe, and evolved through three generations: C140, C215, and C216.

First Generation

The CL-Class, produced from 1992 to 1999 in Europe and 2000 in the US, was based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 platform. The CL-Class first generation comes with two engine options: 4.2-5.0L V8 or 6.0-7.3L V12, with 4- or 5-speed automatic transmission. The first generation of the CL 420, CL 500, CL 600, and CL 600 AMG models are available in 4.2 L V8, 5.0 L V8, 6.0 L V12, and 439 hp and 623 N.m engines. The S/CL 70 AMG, S/CL 72 AMG, and S/CL 73 AMG are available with different engine sizes, with the latter offering a 7.3 L V12 engine with 524 hp and 750 N.m torque. Second Generation

The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class interior boasts a sophisticated design with standard features like all-weather interior, designer wood trims, 14-way power front heated seats, power moonroof, climate control, and navigation system. The second generation of the CL-Class was  produced between 2000 and 2006, under the Mercedes-Benz W215 platform, featuring V8 and V12 engine options and 5- or 7-speed automatic transmission. The second-generation models of the CL 500, CL 600, and CL 600 are available with varying engine capacities and horsepower. The CL 55 AMG, available in 5.4 L V8, supercharged, and 6.3 L V12 engines, boasts 355 hp, 530 N.m torque, 493 hp, 700 N.m torque, and 437 and 620 N.m torque respectively. The CL 63 AMG is available with a 6.3 L V12 engine, delivering 437 hp and 620 N.m torque, and the CL65 AMG, with a 6.0 L V12 turbocharged engine, delivering 603 hp and 1,000 N.m.

Third Generation

The third generation of the CL-Class was produced from 2006 to 2013 in Europe and 2007 to 2014 in the US under the Mercedes-Benz W216 platform, featuring V8 and V12 engine options. The third generation Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is available in models like CL 550 and CL 550 4MATIC, powered by 4.7 L V8 BiTurbo engines, and CL 600, powered by 5.5 L V12 BiTurbo engines. The CL 63 AMG is available in three engine options: 5.5 L V8 BiTurbo, 536 hp, 563 hp, 900 N.m, and 6.0 L V12 BiTurbo, with varying horsepower and torque.

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class underwent a facelift that included new grille, LED fog lamps, bi-xenon headlights with LED technology, redesigned fenders and hood, and new exhaust pipes. The CL-Class boasts features like ATTENTION ASSIST, Night view PLUS, Pedestrian Detection, rearview camera, PRE-SAFE system, adaptive braking, nine airbags, and optional Active Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assists.
