8 Easy Ways to Become Healthier

by Katie Gorden Internet Writer

We are all busy and often prioritize other things over our own health. Many people feel that improving their personal health can be time-consuming, costly, and inconvenient but we are here to tell you that there are many easy steps you can take to become healthier! Treat yourself like a plant. Feed yourself well, make sure you are watered, get some sunlight, and rest. Follow those guidelines and the 8 steps below to become healthier!

Stay Active

You don't have to exercise like you are training for a marathon (unless you are) but it is vital to fit some movement into your day. If this is a new concept for you, try going for a 20-minute walk or simply stretching in the morning to ease into living a more active life.

Invest In a Fitness Tracker

Investing in a fitness tracker can help you track your activity and even other health aspects! Many fitness trackers can be purchased for a reasonable price and will last for years. Experts recommend 10,000 steps per day to both improve and maintain your physical health which can be easily tracked through one of these devices.

Drink Plenty of Water

Increasing the amount of water you drink is an easy way to become healthier. Consuming enough water has countless health benefits from improving your skin to aiding with digestion to helping you shed a few pounds. If you increase your activity as recommended above, it is especially important to also increase your water intake to make sure you are properly hydrated. Grab yourself a refillable water bottle to stay environmentally friendly and sip away!

Get Outside

Sunlight and fresh air can do wonders for both your physical and mental health. Depending on where you live, this may be difficult in certain months but when possible, make sure you expose yourself to the sunlight and outdoors. If you are going to be in the sun for a bit, make sure you throw on some sunscreen to protect your skin. Spending some time outside daily has been proven to improve your mood which can contribute to improved overall mental health.

Lower Your Screen Time

Technology has become a staple in a lot of our everyday lives and while it is beneficial in many ways, it is also important to step away from the screen once in a while. Spending hours on end staring at a phone, computer, tablet, or television will not help you on your journey for better health and it is very easy to set boundaries in this department. If your job or other circumstances requires you to be locked into a screen throughout the day, at least make an effort to step away at least an hour before bedtime which will aid in better sleep quality.

Maintain Your Hygiene

Sometimes even the simplest tasks for good hygiene can be put on the back burner when life gets chaotic but it is imperative that you maintain these efforts in order to become healthier. Bathe regularly, brush your teeth, wash your hands and face, and carry out your other regular hygiene routines to stay healthy. These are some of the most basic practices to maintain your health but can have very negative effects if you are not consistent with them.

Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep is another way to improve both your mental and physical health. Your body needs the proper time to recover from your day-to-day activities. If sleep is an area that could use improvement, consider utilizing a fitness tracker that also tracks your sleep to help you and as noted before, step away from the screens at least an hour before bedtime!

Implement Healthy Eating Habits

Fueling your body with essential nutrients is a great way to become healthier and luckily, if you do not already have a routine in this department, there are many resources out there to help you! Try creating a meal plan to follow or substituting healthy alternatives for your favorite junk food. If you are really busy, there are meal services that have cooked meals delivered to your door. A service like this will give you all the fresh foods with the nutrients you need to stay healthy.

Becoming healthier doesn't have to be a hassle! Find a friend or family member and commit to a few of these methods for some extra accountability in your journey to improve your overall health. Your future self and your body will thank you!
