Conceived, hosted and executive produced by Nick Cannon, the TeenNick HALO Awards is a new one-hour special that recognizes and celebrates real teens who are agents of change in their communities, in the hopes of inspiring and motivating a new generation of leaders. HALO stands for “helping and leading others.” The TeenNick HALO Awards will include four unique stories that are deeply relevant and important to teens — each one showcasing an ordinary teen doing extraordinary things. Each teen will be surprised with a visit by Nick Cannon and awarded a grant for their organization, scholarship funds and a whirlwind, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and trip to meet and connect with a mega-celebrity who shares their passion.
Celebrate doing good with one great night - the TeenNick HALO Awards is back! Not only are we celebrating the amazing work of some of the most inspiring teens, but we're flipping the script and bringing in Hollywood's biggest stars to honor THEM! Since 2009, the HALO Awards have recognized teens who work hard to make the world a better place. Over the years, our honorees have gotten to hang out with the likes of Justin Bieber, Emma Stone, Tyra Banks, Josh Duhamel, Jessica Biel, David Beckham, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and many more celebs who applaud their amazing work and community service. From helping victims of a devastating tornado in Tuscaloosa, to combating bullying, to helping teens find their voices, and even building soccer fields around the world -- HALO honorees prove that you don't have to be adult to make a change. And what's more, each honoree receives prize money in the form of a grant to help further their efforts!
Zachary Kerr, a 19-year-old Methuen native, has been chosen by Nickelodeon as one of four exceptional teen activists to be honored at the fifth annual TeenNick HALO Awards, broadcast live for the first time on Nick at Nite Nov. 17. Each of the teens will be paired with a celebrity presenter who shares a commitment to their cause. This year, stars Josh Hutcherson, Queen Latifah, Chris Paul, and Shay Mitchell join the lineup with host Nick Cannon.
Kerr is one of a set of identical triplets and spent years wrestling with gender identity issues before deciding to transition from female to male. Now, as an advocate for the transgender community, he works extensively with the Greater Boston PFLAG organizing educational outreach programs, visiting schools, companies, and religious centers to share his story.
Kevin Jonas and Jennette McCurdy are co-hosting the 2013 TeenNick HALO awards this year! The show will take place on November 17, 2013 and will air live on Nickelodeon at 8pm EST.
