If you’re purchasing shredded paper for the festive season – whether you run an online store that might use it as packaging material, or you are an individual making use of its qualities for another purpose such as arts and crafts projects – you will hopefully be well underway with doing so by now.

One tricky task you might have when ordering shredded paper from a source like us, however, is deciding on the exact volume of such paper you will require.

Our simple word of advice on this one would be that it is better to risk ending up with ‘too much’ shredded paper, than too little. In any case, there might not really be such thing as ‘too much’ shredded paper, given that any excess paper you end up with could be put to any of the below purposes – and more – after the festive season has passed.

Easter baskets

As we’re looking beyond Christmas, we might as well start with referencing one of the first ‘big’ events after the festive period – Easter. And let’s face it – Easter baskets, packed with chocolate eggs and toys, can be a really fun thing to present to kids.

But what about the material used to ‘cushion’ those goodies? Well, any coloured shredded paper you have remaining from the festive season – such as this Lime Green paper, which resembles grass – could be ideal for allowing you to save money on additional stuffing material.

The packing of delicate items

This is a use of shredded paper that you might be more than familiar with if you run an eBay store or similar online business. It’s also why you might be best-advised to always keep some excess shredded paper to one side, as you can never be sure when you might need to pack a delicate item – such as a fine dining crockery set, or pricey electronics – for delivery somewhere.

Sure, there are other materials one can use for this purpose, such as bubble wrap or tissue paper. But these options have their own disadvantages, and shredded paper is wonderfully versatile, being easy to stuff into those awkward gaps to help ensure a packed item is well-protected.

Pet bedding

We’ve previously mentioned here at Shredded-Paper.co.uk about our shredded paper having been used in the past as bedding for rescued hedgehogs. But there’s no reason why our shredded paper can’t be used as bedding for other animals, even if you don’t have any animals yourself and simply donate it to someone who does.

It’s important to bear in mind that not all forms of shredded paper in the world are necessarily suitable for all types of animals. So, if you are in any doubt about using any given shredded paper you have for a particular animal, it’s a good idea to contact a vet for advice.

Gardening

If you’re on the green-fingered side, you might be more than thankful for having some shredded paper you can reach for. You could plant it around the base of any trees you’re looking after, or pad out a compost heap with it. The microorganisms in the soil will ‘eat’ the shredded paper and leave nutrients for your plants.

Stuffing

Finally, shredded paper can also be an excellent stuffing material for all manner of items. It can be used to stuff the likes of handmade dolls and even pillows, although as far as the latter is concerned, it might be better suited to decorative pillows than those you plan to rest your head on.
