5 Ways To A Better Gut

by Thefinchley Clinic TheFinchleyClinic

It’s wrong to think of all bacteria as being bad as many of the two kilos or more that exist inside your digestive tract are essential to processing the food where the ultimate aim is to extract as many of the nutrients as possible through the lining of the intestines.

There are some bad ones down there as well but with a healthy diet and a body in good shape they are generally kept under control.

The emphasis is on a healthy diet and sadly that is something people in developed countries do not follow. By stuffing our faces with refined flour, excessive amounts of sugar and any refined carbohydrates we upset the fine balance of microorganisms in the gut.

An obvious example of this is the microorganisms candida which exists in all of us and is part of that fine balance that helps digest food. In the case of candida this is actually yeast and yeast likes nothing more than sugar.

Remember, it is not just raw sugar but processed food made with white flour, refined grains like white rice and alcohol that becomes perfect food for candida.

Stress is also a trigger for candida. When people feel stress the body automatically releases a hormone called Cortisol that will depress the immune system. This has the effect of increasing the blood sugar level and again, the candida yeast feeds on this with the other complication being your weakened immune system unable to do anything about it.

Amongst the one thousand or so different types of bacteria in and on the human body are some specific ones in the small intestine that are essential for aiding digestion. Most of these are aerobic bacteria as opposed to the far greater number of anaerobic.

Sometimes when we feel a little bloated or constipated it is necessary to do something about it with a gentle laxative. The laxatives bought at the chemist are now considered by many to be too harsh and a bit like throwing a hand grenade at a small blockage.

A product such as Fivelac not only helps bring relief to the problem but also has the benefit of delivering a boost of five different bacteria of the type that aids digestion. It is a good idea to take one of the other products that release oxygen elements into the intestines at the same time as oxygen helps aerobic bacteria.

For many years a product called Threelac has been taken by people all over the world with generally good results. As the name of that product implies there are three active bacteria and in the case of this newer product there are five.

Apart from trying to stick to a healthier diet with more roughage such as fresh greens and avoiding sugar and refined foods as much as possible it is also worth remembering that antibiotics should be avoided for all but the most extreme health issues as this product destroys good and the bad bacteria it is intended for and consequently can be another cause for a bout of candidiasis.
