5 ways parents can help kids cope with their stress
It’s no secret that 21st century is the age of stress and kids are not immune to stress. While most of us think that kids have no reason to be stressed about as they don’t have many responsibilities. Depression and anxiety are no strangers to kids and teenagers now a days. But the world has changed drastically and kids today many stressors to cope with. The competition level for kids to make a mark is skyrocketing with every passing day and the grown-ups around them do not know any better than pushing them around to do more. Experts believe that parents need to consciously make efforts to help their children cope with stress. There are numerous reasons which stress many teenagers out these days, academics, relationships the need to belong somewhere, divorced parents, and inability to explain their troubles to someone who wants to listen.
Following are 5 tips for parents who wish to help their children deal with the various anxieties they are facing:
1. Try and maintain a peaceful environment at home: If the members of the household perpetrate a stressful environment at home around children by getting in arguments and fights often, the children can get irked and feel helpless in such situations.
2. Communicate: Bring them to speak out their worries to you. Communication is powerful, let your kids know that you are more than willing to hear them and help them.
3. Listen to them well: A major part of communicating well depends on listening to the person who is peaking and understanding him. Parents should be good listeners and calmly receive what their kids have to say. Anywhere you make them feel uncomfortable during your conversation, kids might refrain from sharing their problems with you.
4. Set rules: Setting reasonable boundaries is important as far as disciplining children is concerned. Giving complete freedom to kids could do a lot of damage to them as kids could get involved in a lot of wrongful activities and put them in unwanted trouble. Also, trying to put a leash on them will result into them eventually rebelling against you.
5. Introduce them to meditation: Meditation will not only help them cope with stress but also prevent them from feeling anything negative. Devoting a couple of minutes to a soulful session of meditation will help them be at peace with themselves and the environment as well.
Parental support is of utmost importance as kids of delicate age need someone mature and understanding to help them with their troubles.
