5 Unbelievable Drunk Driving Stories

As you know, drunk driving is a very serious issue in
American society today. However, just because drunk driving is a serious issue
doesn't mean you can't get a good laugh out of these five unbelievable drunk driving
stories.
1. DUI on Motorized Beer Cooler
The purpose of drunk driving laws is to prevent automobile
accidents and save lives. However, some police officers take their respect for
the law too far and lose sight of the actual intentions of the law. This is
evident by the arrest of a man in Noosa, Australia for driving down a road
under the influence on a motorized beer cooler, which could reportedly hold a
couple of cartons of beer. The makeshift vehicle was made with a cooler and a
50cc engine. The man was charged with not only DUI, but also driving
without a license. Currently, the lawyers of the defendant are attempting to
challenge the idea that the motorized cooler could be considered a vehicle.
2. Drunk Driving Runs in the Family
Many things, such as allergies, stubbornness, and even a
sense of humor, can run in the family. On the other hand, it is rather unheard
of for drunk driving to be hereditary. While one's likelihood of getting a DUI
may not have a strong correlation with genetics, a South Canterbury family may
make you think otherwise.
All three members of this family were booked for DUI in the
same night. The first arrest occurred at 12:15 AM, when the 15-year-old son was
pulled over. When he took the breathalyzer, he blew about 530 µg per liter of
breath. This happens to be almost four times greater than the youth limit. The
son was processed at the Timaru police station and the mother was asked to pick
him up. On her way there, she was stopped and arrested for DUI at about 2:14
AM. She blew 776 mcg, which is about twice the adult limit. At the Timaru
police station, the woman called for her husband to pick up both herself and
the son. On the husband's way to the police station, he too was stopped and
arrested for drunk driving at around 3:00 AM. When he took the breathalyzer, he
blew about 559 mcg, which is a fair amount above the adult limit.
3. Hey, At Least She Was Honest!
In Wisconsin, a woman called 911 to report a drunk driver on
the road. Of course, this is certainly a commendable act. The only weird thing
about it? The drunk driver she was reporting in this case was, in fact, her.
Mary Strey, aged 49, had driving from Neilsville to Granton after a night of
excessive drinking. As she drove, she decided to call 911 to report herself for
DUI. The police arrived to the scene and found Mary Strey slurring her words
and unable to stand or walk without swaying. She failed all the sobriety tests
and was found to have a BAC double the actual legal limit.
4. Dressed in What?
When a police officer suspects that an individual is driving
under the influence, he or she usually tries to administer a breathalyzer.
While breathalyzers are certainly supposed to be administered, they aren't
exactly supposed to be worn. In Oxford, Ohio, James Miller was pulled over the
police because he spot on a one-way street driving the wrong way. The police
officer found Miller wearing a breathalyzer costume with a Bud Light next to
the driver's seat. After the police officer administered a breathalyzer, Miller
was found to have a BAC of .158, which happens to be almost double the legal
limit. Not only was Miller charged with a one-way street violation and DUI, but
he was also charged for underage driving. To make things worse, he was found
with multiple IDs on him.
5. Employees Had to Do What?
In China, a boss had ten employees push his car three miles
home. Why? Because after an office party, not one of them was sober enough to
drive. In China, those who are charged for DUI may face a heavy fine and half a
year in jail. Not wanting to leave his car or call a substitute driver, VP
Huang Weiyun suggested the employees push his car home. After about 45 minutes,
Huang Weiyun finally arrived home. Since the engine of the car was not running,
the incident was not classed as drunk driving.
Whether you want to have points removed from your driving
record or keep your insurance premium low, you should consider taking a comedy traffic
school course. Your local traffic court may allow
you to have your citation dismissed if you successfully complete a course at a
traffic school. Your insurance provider may also give you a safe driver
discount upon completion of a defensive driving course.
