5 Tips for Selling Your Gold Jewelry

by Kevin Smith Author

We all need a little cash from time to time. Perhaps you need to pay off a credit card bill, or make a home improvement, of buy a loved one a little something special. If you're lucky, you have some extra gold jewelry lying around, because selling your jewelry to a company that buys gold with cash in Atlanta is a great way to generate a little spur-of-the-moment income. Here are few suggestions to help you move that old jewelry for money.

1. Follow the Gold Market

Gold is a commodity like any other. The prices fluctuate, so the value of your jewelry will depend on where gold is valued at that given moment. If the price of gold is high enough that you're ready to sell, keep that price in mind so you can have an estimate of what your gold is worth. If a buyer appraises your gold, and it's not near your estimation, you should take your goods someplace else.

2. Know How Much Gold is In Your Jewelry

Unless you're carrying solid gold ingots, your jewelry will be made up of a percentage of gold determined by its carats. The higher the carats the higher percentage of gold, and hence the higher the value. Your jewelry's weight and its purity will determine its value. Look for a hallmark on your item that will include the carats, the date it was made, and the manufacturer.

3. You Are Under No Obligation

When you first meet with the buyer, they are giving you an estimate of what they're willing to pay. This process is free, and does not oblige you in any way to sell them your jewelry. You can always come back later and sell if you like.

4. Bring Identification

The last thing you want a buyer to think is that you're some kind of cat burglar, so always bring your ID (and leave your black leotard and ski mask at home). But seriously, you'll have to present ID and fill out some paperwork to make the sale.

5. Do Your Research

Look up any relevant information regarding the buyer. Check their credentials with the Better Business Bureau, and look for any positive or negative reviews online. You'll want to make an educated choice before visiting anyone willing to buy your jewelry.

If you follow these simple rules, you'll have no trouble selling your jewelry to a business willing to buy gold with cash in Atlanta.
