5 Things We Like about the Chevy Traverse

by Kevin Smith Author

We ask a lot of our mid-size SUVs. We want them to handle like a sports car, ride like a sedan, and perform like a truck. Fortunately, GM has been building the most advanced and reliable SUVs for years, and the Chevy Traverse is no exception. If you're looking to take a test drive of a new Chevrolet Traverse in San Antonio, TX, here are a few things you might like.

1. It's a Good-Looking Vehicle

A longer wheelbase than its competitors at 120.9 inches, the Traverse has the masculine look and feel of a truck, but with streamlined accents that keep it in the speedy car category. Its attractive lines and daring style clearly separates it from the SUV's mini-van origins.

2. Performance

Never fear. This mid-size does not perform like a mini-van. In fact, the 2018 drops 350 pounds from last year's model and, assisted by an electronic steering system similar to the Camaro, it handles like an even smaller car. The relaxed suspension has no trouble handling the 3.6-liter, V-6 engine and all of its 310 horses. One reason the ride is so comfortable is the 9-speed automatic transmission. Typically suited to a Cadillac, the transmission is seamless and allows for a particularly smooth ride.

3. Luxury Interior

Did someone say "Cadillac"? Attractive touches highlight the sophisticated design of the interior, with high quality leather, vinyl or cloth upholstery, depending on the trim. All three rows are spacious and comfortable, and the electronic extras include a pair of USB ports in each row and an infotainment system that accepts either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

4. Ample Cargo Space

One reason this car is so long is the tremendous storage space. Behind the third row of seats, the cargo hold allows for 23 cubic feet of storage. Drop the third row down and that number jumps to 58 cubic feet. That's plenty of room for several passengers and their kayaks.

5. Advanced Safety Features

It's nice to have all the extras, but you want to be safe too. The 2018 Traverse comes with front, rear and side driver alerts, park assist, a rear camera, and surround vision - providing a bird's-eye view of the car via four strategically placed cameras. It's pretty fancy.

We think the Traverse does a fine job of providing comfort, style, and performance. If you want to see for yourself, test drive your own Chevrolet Traverse in San Antonio, TX.
