5 Things to Consider When Getting a Custom Battery
In modern days, the sophistication of electrical and electronic
systems are increasing day by day. This means that more and more systems
consist of complex power structures. While most complex systems are adequate in
most cases, not all can be this.
In turn, it increases the need for a custom battery designed solely for the system. But before you get a custom battery, there are a few things to consider. Here are five things you should know before you order a custom battery.
Specifications - Complex and sophisticated systems need a dedicated power supply that meets the system's specifications they are made for. Since electrical and electronic systems are incredibly delicate, the custom power supply has to exactly meet the power requirements and be of the same type as that of the system. If not, the whole system will not work due to inadequate supply or be shorted or burnt from too much power.
Chemical Composition - Custom batteries, like most standard batteries, are made of various chemicals that store charges. These chemicals are mainly lithium-ion, nickel-metal hydride, lead-acid, nickel-cadmium etc. Most chemicals are safe, but some can be poisonous if a leak happens. It's best to ensure the seal and battery cover offers maximum protection from leak or exposure.
Battery Management System - Most custom batteries have a battery management system(BMS) these days. This BMS helps track the battery health, the charging and discharging states, the battery health etc. While ordering a custom battery, you need to be wary that the battery has an updated and modern BMS system.
Quality - Custom batteries, like a standard battery, needs to meet specific quality regulations. These need to meet certain standards of quality. It's best to check if they have been manufactured according to the BS EN ISO 9001:2015 framework to ensure quality and process control.
Testing - Similar to quality control, the custom battery needs to constantly undergo comprehensive testing to ensure that the battery meets the specifications and doesn't have any complex problems that may cause significant issues to the system or the other environment.
