5 Signs You Have Plumbing Issues

by Kevin Smith Author

No one wants to deal with plumbing problems. In fact, it's common for people to wait too long to fix their plumbing, so they wind up paying a lot more. The best plumbers in Marietta know how to repair the little things wrong with your home's plumbing before they spin out of control. Here are some warning signs to look out for.

1. The Toilet Keeps Running

Everyone has this problem at some point. If jiggling the handle works, go ahead. However, eventually you're going to have to look inside the tank to see what's going on. If the chain is blocking the flapper, that's an easy fix you can do on your own. If, however, the flapper itself is damaged, or if it appears to be closing properly but the water is still running, then there's something else going on and you might want to call a plumber.

2. Leaking Faucet

If one or more of the faucets in your home are leaking, they're not going to get better on their own. Because the pipes in your home are always under constant pressure, tired or worn rubber or silicone seals in your faucets can lead to leaking. Replacing the seals yourself, or hiring a professional, will save on water bills and unnecessary waste.

3. Slow Drains

Oftentimes we'll have a drain in the house that drains more slowly every day so we just get used to it. That's annoying enough, but if it's occurring in more than one drain in your house, that could be a sign of serious trouble. It's possible your home's drains are slow due to a clogged sewer main or complications involving your septic tank. Regardless, it's important you hire a plumber ASAP to assess the situation.

4. Hot Water Issues

If you're having trouble getting hot water in the house, or the water temperature varies unpredictably, you might have a problem with your hot water heater. Potential causes include a faulty thermostat, heating element, or dip tube. Also, discolored water could be an indication of rust inside the water heater itself.

5. Unpleasant Odors

If you notice musty odors coming from certain parts of your home, perhaps within the walls, they could be signs of mildew resulting from leaking pipes. If you notice wet spots or mildew on a wall or floor, you almost certainly have a leak, and you'll need to call a plumber to fix it.

If you notice any one or more of these problems in your home, don't hesitate to ask one of the best plumbers in Marietta for help. You'll be glad you did.
