5 Signs It's Time to Call a Plumber
by Kevin Smith AuthorYour plumbing is one of those things you hardly notice so
long as everything's working properly. When you turn on the faucet and water
comes out (then disappears down the drain), there's no reason to think about
the incredibly complicated nature of your home's plumbing system, and how
vulnerable it actually is to encountering problems down the road. That's why
it's a good idea to make yourself aware of some of the signs of trouble, so you
can call plumbers in
Kennesaw, GA, to resolve the issue before things get any worse.
1. Weird Noises
You know what your pipes are supposed to sound like. They
definitely shouldn't be making any comments. If you notice what sounds like
gurgling coming from the toilet, or when you run the laundry or dishwasher,
that's usually a good sign serious plumbing issues are coming down the pike.
When there's a clog, your system will try to find air, and that results in that
gurgling sound you hear. You might want to get that checked out.
2. Low Water Pressure
If you notice low water pressure coming from one of your
faucets, you might not require a plumber to fix it at all. Screw off the
faucet's aerator and remove any gunk that residing behind it. That might be all
that's required. If not, your home could be suffering from leaks, blockage, or
a fractured pipe, so you should call for a plumber for those.
3. Running Ghost Water
In general, water should run when it's being used for
something. If you're taking a shower, or watering the plants, then you can
expect to hear water running in the pipes. Sometimes, however, you'll hear
water running on its own. If the sound is coming from your toilet, it might
only require a new flapper. But if that isn't the case, you may be suffering
from a leak in your tank that needs to be resolved.
4. Slow Drain
Slow drains are probably the most common reason people call
a plumber. If you notice what seems to be a clog in one of your sinks or
bathtub, resist the urge to use an over-the-counter drain cleaner. These are
filled with chemicals that can do more harm than good, so call a plumber
instead.
5. Sewer Odor
If you notice a smell that resembles either sewage or rotten
eggs, you might be suffering from a broken vent or pipe beneath your house.
This can lead to damage in your foundation, but it's also really disgusting, so
you might want to get that looked at.
