5 Most Exciting Activities to Try in San Francisco

by Malini Somra Blogger

Many know San Francisco as a hub for innovation and technology but very few people consider it as place for action and adventure. In reality, the foggy city’s natural terrain allows for a slew of exciting activities.

So, if you’re an adrenaline junkie looking for memorable adventures, then here’s a list of activities you should try!

1. Kayaking at Tomales Bay

If you’re a big fan of nature and love watersports, then one activity you should check out is bioluminescent kayaking in Tomales Bay.

Just a short distance away from San Francisco, Tomales Bay is heaven for those who love to explore the outdoors. Enjoy the natural beauty of living organisms lighting up the sea as you gently paddle through the calm waters. It’s truly a sight to behold that will leave you breathless! Take note, however, that bioluminescence only happens between June and November, so be sure to travel on those dates!

2. Riding a Segway down Lombard Street

Known as the most crooked street in the world, the Lombard Street has drawn the attention of many travelers and adventure seekers. If you’re skilled with the Segway and prefer your activities done within the city, then you may want to try riding down this iconic street.

However, if you’re not ready to take on such a rough route (and who can blame you), you can still enjoy going around the city through Segway tours. It might not be as thrilling as Lombard street, but hey, at least you’ll be back in your hotel in one piece.

3. Surfing at Ocean Beach

Are you an experienced surfer who has enough skills to conquer even the toughest waves? Then challenge yourself by taking a trip down Ocean Beach where even the best surfers can sometimes get their butts kicked! Known for the humongous waves and fatal rip tides, this beach is definitely not made for newbies!

If you’re not ready to take on Ocean Beach, try visiting Santa Cruz which is said to have better waves for beginner surfers.

4. Hiking at the Presidio

If water is not you thing, not to worry! The Bay area has also a plethora of ground activities for the land-dwelling adventurer. If you love long walks and giving your legs a good stretch, then you’ll enjoy hiking at the Presidio.

A former US military fort, the Presidio is now part of the Golden Gate Recreational area and is known for its many scenic views and challenging routes. This outdoor activity is perfect for those who like working up a sweat while enjoying nature’s wonders at the same time.

5. Rock Climbing at the Glen Canyon

If you’re a big fan of Tom Cruise and you’re not afraid of heights, then one terrain you might want to conquer is the Glen Canyon. While not for the faint of heart, this majestic work of nature is a sight to behold and offers a view unlike any other.

But if you’re not ready for some hardcore climbing, not to worry as San Francisco also offers plenty indoor climbing gyms to satisfy your need for an adrenaline rush.

Whatever kind of adventurer or traveler you might be, you’ll surely come out with a story worth telling when you visit the Bay!
