5 Great Ways for Insulating Windows

by Larry Chetan Business

Home is the place where you get complete comfort and respite. If your home is in an area which gets the maximum amount of sunlight, you must be looking for ways that can help you insulate your windows and protect your homes from sunlight and any other danger.

Given here are 5 different ways using which you can insulate and protect your homes.

Shades:

This is one of the most widely chosen methods of window insulation. The method is reliable also since it has the stamp of approval from an authorized body. The Department of Energy considers it the simplest and the most effective way of saving energy. These services recommend buying bling with a double layer of fabric out of which one is dark and the other one is light. You need to turn the light side to the outside so that the sunlight is reflected and heat gain is released during the hot months and the reverse happens in the winter season. Darker fabric absorbs heat. Blinds are just the perfect fit for your homes. They can be raised or lowered.

Blinds:

Blinds are recommended normally for the South and the West facing windows. White or near white blinds are capable of reducing the heat gain by 45%. These are also beneficial as they control both the view and the amount of light getting in. You can choose to raise them or can open the slates fully or can either chose to close these blinds. Exterior blinds can also be made use of to cut down the Sun completely.

Drapes:

Drapes are used basically for insulation purposes and keep your rooms completely dark. They have blackout drapes also. Just think of light or any type of white fabric that can reflect light and heat and keeps your room cool. These drapes should be hung close to the windows. You can choose anything right from the blackouts to sheers but if you are choosing them for insulation. You should choose a thicker and lighter fabric.

Awnings and Overhangs:

Both overhangs and awnings can reduce the amount of heat that enters your home. Hence these are excellent additions for west and south facing windows. Exterior awnings are just wonderful and can cut down the heat gain to a great extent. They are hence a preferred choice for window insulation.

Safety Films:

Safety film for windows is a lasting and durable film which delivers a host of benefits and cuts down 99% of UV rays. It is also a good choice but a little care is to be taken with them. These films should not be applied to the Plexiglas surfaces, plastics, and windows of the motor vehicles. They should also not be applied over very old glasses.
