The national capital of Israel, Jerusalem is the holiest city in Judaism. Its rich and varied history, stunning location, and wealth of beautiful sights make it one of the most fascinating places in the world. If you're someone looking to spend your jewish vacation, look no further than this city.

There are endless things to see and do in Jerusalem — whether you’re visiting the city for a few days or a few weeks, you could easily fill your time with incredible experiences.

Jerusalem, a city that is sacred to three major monotheistic religions, has been the center of many wars and peace negotiations. This city has gone through many ups and downs, but one thing has remained the same: Jerusalem's historical and religious importance.

Jerusalem has much more to offer besides its religious monuments, however. It is also a modern city with many museums, parks and restaurants for all tastes.

Here are 5 things you can experience on your trip to Jerusalem:

Visit Old City markets

The Old City Market on David Street offers everything from fruits and veggies to spices from all over the Middle East. The market is open every day except Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath).

Check out the amazing variety of goods for sale in the winding streets of Jerusalem's Old City markets, from traditional Arab spices, clothes and accessories to all kinds of souvenirs.

The Old City of Jerusalem is packed with sights, old and new. The area is divided into four quarters: Muslim, Christian, Jewish and Armenian. The Old City's narrow alleyways and bustling souks (markets) are a feast for the senses.

Visit the Western Wall

Also known as the Wailing Wall, this holiest of Jewish sites has been attracting visitors for thousands of years. The wall was built by King Herod in 20 BC and is all that remains of the Second Temple of Jerusalem. You can visit it from Monday to Friday from 7am to 9pm, on Saturday from 7am to 3pm and on Sunday from 8am until sunset

Today, three times a day people come to pray at this holy place in Jerusalem. You can find people from many different backgrounds and countries there, all praying in their own way.

Take a walk through Mamilla Mall

This pedestrian mall has been open since 2007 but was designed to look like Old Jerusalem. The mall features traditional architecture as well as modern shops, restaurants, art galleries and more. You can enter for free and enjoy the fresh air before returning to your hotel

Bask in the history at the Old City

The Old City lies within Jerusalem's 16th-century walls. Step inside to discover a maze of streets that hum with life, and are home to sites sacred to Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Within the walls is the Western Wall (Wailing Wall), a section of King Herod's Temple Mount which is revered by Jews. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre houses the site where Jesus was crucified, while the Dome of the Rock mosque sits on the spot from where tradition says Muhammad ascended to heaven.

The Old City of Jerusalem is home to some of the most famous religious sites in the world: The Western Wall, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque are within walking distance from each other. Walk through this unique city and enjoy its sights, smells and sounds!

Visit Israel Museum

The nation's largest museum complex, the Israel Museum has an extensive collection of religious art and artifacts, as well as works by some of Israel's most famous contemporary artists. It's a perfect fit on your next glatt kosher vacations. The Shrine of the Book building contains some extremely rare documents, including a complete copy of the Dead Sea Scrolls. A short walk away is the Holyland Model of Jerusalem, a 1:50 scale model that depicts how Jerusalem would have looked in 66 AD. It's an excellent way to get your bearings before exploring this ancient city.
