5 Car Checks and Repairs You Shouldn’t Put Off!

by Roselands Auto Lakemba Mechanic

Most of us rely heavily on our car; we use it to get to work, for leisure, and those quick trips here and there. And yet, most of us don’t give much thought to its reliability until it suddenly isn’t reliable anymore. We may ignore warning signs of potential problems and put off routine checks and repairs. But by doing so, we run the risk of our car letting us down at an inopportune moment.

We asked our local Lakemba mechanic about the car checks and repairs you really shouldn’t put off if you want your car to remain reliable.

1.       Checking and Replacing the Oil and Oil Filter

Engine oil is vital for lubricating and reducing wear on the engine. If the oil is not changed frequently, it no longer does the job properly and can even damage the engine. Scheduling routine oil checks and replacing the oil when it’s needed is vital to ensure that your engine continues to run smoothly. The oil filter may also need to be changed.

2.       Checking and Replacing the Air Filter

The air filter stops dirt and dust from getting into the engine where it can cause damage. A new air filter will not only enhance the performance of your car, but it will improve the fuel economy too. Fortunately, replacing your air filter is a quick and easy job.

3.       Checking and Replacing the Fuel Filter

It’s all about the filters! The fuel filter is probably something you don’t think about; however, just like the other filters, it’s there to do a job – and that’s filtering out dust, debris and any other contaminants that will affect the performance of the fuel in your car and could ultimately cause damage. It’s far easier and cheaper to replace a fuel filter than the fuel injectors.

4.       Replacing the Brake Pads

Faulty or old brake pads can prevent your car from braking efficiently and could be the cause of an accident. Don’t allow your brake pads to wear down; get them changed before they cause a problem. If you don’t change your brake pads as needed, you run the risk of having to replace the drums, callipers and rotors – which will cost you a whole lot more than simply replacing the brake pads.

5.       Making Sure Your Headlights are Bright

Old bulbs and scratched and discoloured light covers both add up to less than bright headlights and this could affect your ability to see the road and pedestrians at night. Having working lights is essential to ensure that you can see your surroundings and that your car can be seen.

All of these routine checks and repairs can be easily carried out by your local Lakemba mechanic. Don’t risk your car breaking down or, even worse, becoming involved in an accident due to easily remedied faults.
