5 Bedroom Design Must-Haves

by Emma L. Business consultant

A bedroom is often seen as the calmest and most comfortable room of the home. It’s an oasis for most couples, especially if the rest of the home is hectic and made to sustain the needs of large families and many guests.

Designing a bedroom should therefore be deliberate and very well planned. Start with a few basic items that are must-have and that will make your room useable and comfy. When you have that, all the other pieces can be added later.

Bedding

The third of your life is spent sleeping and when you put it in that way, you start realizing how important it is to choose the most comfortable and sturdy bed you can find. It’s also an item you don’t need to invest in too often, so making sure that you make the right choice right away might be the best way to go.

The bedding itself is equally important as the bed and you shouldn’t be satisfied with stopping at choosing the right “thread count”. Instead, take the time to explain your sleeping patterns and needs and a professional will help you choose the most comfortable bedding out there.

A rug

A rug is often overlooked when it comes to its importance for room design and comfort. It’s the biggest piece of furniture in most rooms, and therefore it sets the tone for the whole design. Have in mind that this room is made to sleep in and that you need to choose the color and design with that in mind.

The rug should also be plush and comfy to use barefoot. This is how you’ll walk across the rug each morning and each evening, and it should be a comfortable and easy experience.

The lighting

The goal of the bedroom lighting is to create a soothing ambiance and allow you to prepare for rest and wind down at the end of the day. Sometimes, this can’t really be accomplished with electric light and you might need to invest in candle supplies and include them in your evening routine.

It’s also a good idea to have a lot of accent light spread across the room. This will allow you to use the bedroom in other ways as well. It can be study or a separate office without jeopardizing the calm atmosphere you’ve created in it.

A place to sit

A place to sit is often overlooked in the bedroom, and it might make the whole room less comfortable even though it’s easy to fix. It’s not always best to use the bed to sit, both because it’s not the cleanest way to go and because it’s not comfy.

A few large plush chairs will do the trick, but they need to complement the bed and the overall decoration of the room. Earthy and dark tones are the best way to go, since they will create a calm and soothing atmosphere that you’re looking for in the bedroom.

No-tech area

In the end, this isn’t something every bedroom needs to have, but it’s a policy many are adopting and it improves the lives of the occupants. That’s the policy not to use any tech past a particular line set in the room. It’s best to put a few stationary chargers away from the bed, and part ways with your gadgets when you enter the bedroom and start charging them.

A bedroom needs to be a place of comfort and rest. This is accomplished by choosing both the right furniture and the right accessories.
